Good or Bad?

Image is wicked. Sound? Nyyaaaahhhh I gotta get the album before I pass judgement.
By Skrooie on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 - 02:47 pm: |
Good, I'd suggest, although the album is patchy.
By Chris on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 - 07:57 pm: |
I like the mailshots they send me. Clint Eastwood is great and has an interesting video. The website is good. Haven't heard the album, probably won't until it gets a little cheaper. But what do you think Andy?
By Andy on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 - 02:14 pm: |
I dunno, i thought i'd let everyone else do the thinking for me.
By Andy on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 - 02:17 pm: |
But what I do know is that I spelt Gorillaz wrong.
By alex on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 - 11:45 pm: |
that you did.
By twist on Monday, July 2, 2001 - 09:14 pm: |
I have too agree.
The album is patchy but Clint Eastwood is amazing.
So I'm going with Gorillaz's good.

*nods* i agree, ok!
By kacy on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 - 03:11 am: |
I like the album quite well, so, GOOD! There are some really good songs besides CE...5/4, Slow Country, M1A1 are all nice.
By Lucky on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 - 07:14 pm: |
Is Noodle actually Bjork? Sorry I don't know how to do the two dots above the o.
By The Occifer on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 - 05:12 am: |
I must admit I think the Gorillaz album is one hell of a lot of fun. And Clint Eastwood is by no means the best track, in my humble opinion.
Speaking of other tracks, I didnt think Damon would ever write a peppy pop song like 19-2000 again. Very chirpy.
What odds on the second Gorillaz album coming out before the next Blur album? Damon said recently that he was going to write a song for Liam Gallagher, "because he hasn't had a decent song written for him in years."
By indigo on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 - 03:37 pm: |
oooh I love 19-2000! And the radio remix is actually better than the album version. I can't believe I haven't posted on this topic before! Ah well, I love 'em, the little animated sweeties. And no, Noodle isn't Bjork. But wouldn't it be cool if she was?
By Skrooie on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 - 04:06 pm: |
Not really.
By da Luckster on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 - 06:09 pm: |
Yeah it would. More shrieky vocals ha ha. Nah I just thought it might've been her because she's supposedly matey with Damon and Gorillaz doesn't sound TOO far off from some of her own stuff... feck she even LOOKS likes Noodle! But then again, how (dis)similar do Murdoc and Jamie look... Oh yeah, and Damon doesn't have hair anymore does he.

I've only seen the Gorillaz album sleeve once, but isn't Tina Weymouth credited on it somewhere ? Anybody know which song she's on and what she's playing on it ?
By The Occifer on Friday, July 6, 2001 - 05:39 am: |
I may be wrong, but I think she just sings on 19/2000, BakeSoda.
By Skrooie on Saturday, July 7, 2001 - 12:44 am: |
Whats the point of the comment about Jamie not looking like Murdoc ? Murdoc is Murdoc, he's not based on Jamie, is he ?
I wouldn't know, I've not really kept up to date on whats going on in the Blur world anymore (not really possible when they don't do anything) but I'm pretty sure Jamie just does the cartoons, Murdoc is someone else altogether.
Right ?
You are talking about Hewlitt, btw, aren't you ?
By Skrooie on Saturday, July 7, 2001 - 12:45 am: |
...either that or Milestone has a lot of explaining to do...lol

Huh? Isn't Murdoc Jamie Hewlett? He did say in an interview once: "It was his (Murdoc's) birthday a few weeks ago... It's not easy living two lives!" That sort of lead me to think he was Murdoc but y'know... confusing man.
I've just very conveniently been reading a Gorillaz interview so like don't think that quote been stuck in ma brain duuuuude.
By chut on Saturday, July 7, 2001 - 01:00 pm: |
I thought there was only two Gorillaz members. But what do I know? It's not very interesting anyway.
By Skrooie on Saturday, July 7, 2001 - 01:33 pm: |
I was pretty sure Murdoc was a seperate entity, as Gorillaz did a gig a couple of months back and I'm pretty sure Hewlitt doesn't play with them.
Hello BakeSale. Remember that quote I misappropriated fresh from your fragrant lips a little while ago? Remember how I said I was going to use it in a film script I was writing at the time? Yeah? Well, I didnt use it then, but I'm planning on using it in a new script soon. For your information, it will be uttered by a minor character, John Sadist, a rock star with a legion of female groupies who has a reputation for being poetic and profound. He fronts a band made up entirely of convicted criminals. They appeal greatly to many women.

GORILLAZ have spoken exclusively to someone else besides me about their collaboration with D-12, '911'.
As previously reported somewhere else, the track was inspired by the terrorist attacks in the US. Although it won't be available in the shops, the song, which also features former Specials lead singer Terry Hall, will also appear as a free download on the Gorillaz website, www.gorillaz.com, before the end of the month.
The track was recorded after the D-12 posse got stranded in the UK just two days after the suicide hijacks on September 11 and describes the actual events of the day as well as the aftermath of the atrocities - and talks about Osama Bin Laden.
Somebody else managed to get a sneak preview of the track - and said it was a relatively slow-paced tune with a hard hitting, cool beat.
The D-12 rappers take it in turns to sing. The lyrics talk of "terrorists in the sky", "poisonous warfare" and pledge revenge - "my bullets come in threes like trilogies".
It continues: "Put the knife away, missiles always strike and blaze/So much smoke you can't tell the difference between night and day".
Gorillaz' Murdoc told someone else: "Working with D-12 was a reassuring experience. I like their work ethic - turn up en masse to the studio with a whole bunch of good-looking girls, bags of grass, champagne and sweets. And just laying it down, baby."
