Nah, I didn't go :( I'm regreting it too because it looked really good this year with some really good bands on, as well as some top old bands such as Pink Floyd etc.
Surely someone from Coping lived to tell the tale.
Anyway, I know some people say that you have to go to Glastonbury to talk about it but I don't believe that is the case. I haven't been to Glastonbury and I don't want to go to Glastonbury because it's smelly and muddy!

Hiya everyone! I'm back - I'm sure Sarki missed me at least....

Glastonbury was pretty fucking cool. I went up on Thursday morning, and left Monday evening (didn't get back home until 2am this morning, due to the combination of me driving badly and my friend doing some terrible map reading). It was quite sunny for the first 3 days, and absolutely freezing at night - I ended up sat in a field drinking cider at 3am watching some film... can't quite remember what, possibly Lord of the Rings, possibly Monsters inc... on an outdoor screen, wrapped in all the clothes I brought as well as 6 bin liners. An experience that everyone should have at some point in their life

On Sunday it started to rain lightly and it got a bit colder, but it was surprisingly unmuddy. It wasn't that smelly either (except in the most evil Portaloos I have ever been forced to visit, but even then there were some bearable loos further away from the middle of the site). My tent didn't leak and I got to indulge my inner pyromaniac by making bonfires out of newspaper, paper cups and piza boxes.

I also learned how to roll a foot long joint (possibly the least useful thing to learn as I don't smoke), bought some massively flared jeans and a goth hat, sat in a tipi with a group of stoners from Birmingham, got threatened by the massive group of travellers camping outside the gates along with a selection of amazingly scabby hair, dogs and children, got two henna tattoos (rock and roll!), went to a hog roast, got all the members of Ash to sign my programme (and blushed so much that I couldn't bring myself to say anything to Tim Wheeler except a squeaked "thankyou!") and got lost in the middle of the night, disorientated as I was chased by a 12 foot tall papier mache Ali G puppet and 4 men on stilts dressed as a military band.

Oh yeah, and i also saw some bands. My ratings follow...

Excellent
The White Stripes (did a cover of Jolene)
Roger Waters (did old classic Pink Floyd stuff and had the best stage visuals)
The Vines (went mad, did a cover of Miss Jackson by Outkast)
Ash (did a greatest hits set, and I got on TV moshing in the front row!)

Good
Badly Drawn Boy
The Electric Soft Parade
Elbow
Vex Red (very rock, in a sleazy Placeboesque way, one of their songs segued into a very weird cover of Genie in a Bottle!)
Rod Stewart (!)
Coldplay
the Dandy Warhols
lost prophets

Bad
Starsailor
Nelly Furtado

(I was forced into hearing these 2 from my tent, as we were camped literally 200m from the Pyramid stage!)

By Matt on Wednesday, July 10, 2002 - 11:30 pm:

What was fucking wrong with Starsailor?
I went to "move" last nite and saw some top notch acts such as Doves, Ian Brown, Bowie, Suede and all that fucking stuff! Fucking brilliant man! cant remember much though because I was fucking slaughtered!
Starsailor are fucking ace live! They probably didnt fucking try because Glastonbury is always full of fucking pussies like yourself.

By Fireball on Wednesday, July 10, 2002 - 11:44 pm:

Fuckin' Ace man!

By indigo on Thursday, July 11, 2002 - 12:10 pm:

Starsailor weren't particularly bad, they just had absolutely no stage presence. I might as well have been listening to a badly recorded CD, with coughs and mumbles between the songs. I didn't even notice they were on until my friend pointed them out, I thought it was just the background music.

By Matt on Thursday, July 11, 2002 - 10:39 pm:

I see what you're saying there Indigo! I bet they have fucking crap sound system people who want fucking stabbing because they're ruining a top band! Fucking amateurs!
And why do all my posts have to be fucking followed by a comment from that cunt fireball? Just fucking beat it will ya? Tosspot!

By Fireball on Thursday, July 11, 2002 - 11:28 pm:

Fuckin' tosspots man!

Sorry I couldn't help but putting that in. I saw the Vines the other night and got back stage where the drummer(Hamish) and bassist((Patrick)mouthwatering!) were. I just sat and talked with Hamish about Glastonbury as I've never been. I met the other two in the band later on that night also. They are really a great group of guys!

By O.R. on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 - 04:17 am:

OH MY GOD O.R. I AM SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, caaaaaallllmmmmm..... just a desperate Vines fan, have been listening to Highly Evolved nonstop for 2 weeks. How did you get backstage?

By the way, do you really look like those photos? (I know thats a dumb questions, but I have photos where I look like someone else entirely). They just look scarily like me (sans that very nice short haircut and big X on the hand) when I'm all dressed up in my "casual Camden/ Graham glasses/ choker/ tons of bracelets and badges" type stuff. Maybe one day i'll connect my scanner and finally get a photo up here.

Of course she fucking looks like that in real life, what do you think cameras are for? Don't post a real picture of you up whatever you do. I don't like vomiting un-controlably.

By indigo on Saturday, July 27, 2002 - 06:05 pm:

Hmm, Sarki, poster of such witty and scintillating repartee. One day I may just slit my throat (or maybe yours, yes that would be better) out of frustration at the fact that such peurile posts from a shallow and idiotic character are taking over Coping.

By OpenRomantic on Sunday, July 28, 2002 - 06:43 am:

Okay okay. I'll tell how I got backstage.
This will probably be long but it's one of my best concert stories as this was the first time I got backstage. It wasn't even that hard! It just all depends on the venue and this was a very small venue!
The show was on a Sunday night and ended really early, around 8:30, but my ride wasn't going to pick me up til 10:30, so my sister and I just walked around for a bit. Towards the back of the venue there was sort of a sitting area and there was this guy trying to get me to dance with some other girls to an OKGO (the band that opened and are quite good) song that was going to be put on the internet. I was going to do it too until I noticed that there was a couch blocking a doorway covered by a curtain and Hamish had pulled the curtain back from the other side and was sticking his cute little head out. A girl went over to him and asked him to sign a poster for her so I got some of my posters out and he took them backstage. We sat there holding the curtain back and waved at Patrick who was the only other member of The Vines that we could see and the next think I know this girl was like, "can we come backstage?" and Hamish said, "yeah sure", so we climbed over the couch. That's all there was to it! Patrick was really quiet but Hamish was the talker. I swear I sat there for more than 10 minutes talking with him about Glastonbury and touring. I felt bad for the girl that was there with me cos she didn't have any pics left on her camera and I would've taken a picture for her and e-mailed it to her but I only had 2 pics left on mine. I don't know how long I was back there before I left. When I got outside the other 2 were hanging out in the ally. Craig is quite the skateborder! I wish I could've gotten pic of him skating but after being backstage I only had 1 more pic. All together they are a really nice bunch of guys!
I have only met a few bands (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Hives, The Vines and OKGO) but The Vines were the coolest. The Hives were great too but I didn't get to talk with them like The Vines. I'm sure once you get them chattin' they're awesome! Who knows...maybe when I see The Strokes with The White Stripes in 1 week and 4 days I'll meet one of them and they'll be even cooler. *crosses her fingers*

By O.R. on Sunday, July 28, 2002 - 07:03 am:

Oh, and the answer to your second question indigo is yes. The first pic is more to my liking but it actually really does look like me. All fake smile, dorky glasses, and horrible hair day of it though the more I look at the second pic, the more I notice the few pounds the damn camera added to my hips! What the hell?!?! Geez if I had noticed that earlier I wouldn't have posted it!!!! Argh!

I have a site with the pics from the show that I'm sure you'd like to see

Cheers!

I met bonehead from oasis twice back in 1997!
first time he was walking round town centre with a bird, second time i talked to him briefly. he was in a fucking nightclub in salford just having a laugh with some mates who seemed real pricks but they must have been cool to be hanging out with that geezer.
i asked him where liam was and he told me he didnt know, fucking sound lad man! proper fucking down to earth. bit like noel except less hair and a bit less talent but he's a sound lad
i was gutted when he left oasis.
