That's a rip-off, I got my box-set brand new for £9.99.
By Joe on Saturday, August 12, 2000 - 10:41 am: |
The fact that the Blur Observer promo CD was free in the first place and has nothing new on it, apart from some REALLY dull interviews, points to the "value" of this scam. And should we really be paying any attention to someone who clearly has just realised he hates blur and wants to rid himself of everything connected with them???
By James H on Saturday, August 12, 2000 - 05:46 pm: |
Well, that's fine.
Obviously 'Chris' lives in an alternate universe where things suddenly retail for one tenth of their value - what retailer sells off £89.99 worth of stock for £9.99? Certainly not any second-hand recors shops I know - all the ones in central London are selling even second hand, played copies for at least £70-£80.
Further to this, I have just checked with a couple of collector's websites (www.energy-music.com and opalmusic.com) for the items which I have for sale, and this is what they were charging...
Girls+Boys - my price £3 -their price £10
'13' promo - my price £7 -their price £24.99
Observer CD- my price £3 -their price £12.99 (!)
Box Set - my price £60 ono -their price £99.99
I am obviously ripping everyone off, wouldn't you say?
Plus, yes, you must be right, I must hate Blur, since I have all their albums and singles, but am so strapped for cash that I have to sell off a few things from my collection. That follows...
Thanks for replying, though.
James

Alternate universe? Well, there are worse ways to describe Cornwall, "parochial backwater" springs to mind. Actually I got mine from Our Price after they failed to shift them all for £30 in a sale. Your price-list above is a little biased towards collectors sites and shops in London where, as we all know, the sky's the limit as far as price is concerned. And why have you put my name in inverted commas? This isn't some pseudonym I just use to protect my identity.
By James H on Saturday, August 12, 2000 - 08:02 pm: |
Alright, fair enough. I put your name in inverted commas because I was in a mood, and it is fair to say that my list was biased towards collectors shops, but to be fair, you can't just go and buy (most of) this stuff in your local HMV.
I didn't know about the box set being sold off in Our Price - it's fairly gutting to know I could have got mine for a tenth of the price, but still, I assume Our Price don't have any left, and anyone who wanted one would be better off buying mine for £60 or thereabouts rather than £100 from Energy or HMV or wherever...
Still, if anyone is still reading this apart from me and Chris, I am open to offers, so anyone looking for a reasonable deal, mail me!
P.S. Not £9.99 ;-)
By Si on Saturday, August 12, 2000 - 09:35 pm: |
Alright alright..
£10.08
By James H on Saturday, August 12, 2000 - 11:22 pm: |
Hmmmm, tempting..
Do I need £10.08 that much?
No, I think I'll keep my luscious box set...
Drooool.................

Oh Jim. Oh Jim. Can you feel the pain I'm in? If I had £60 I'd buy something else, maybe some trousers and a book. I am very sorry that you need money so much. Why don't you talk to Ian about the possibility of a loan?
By Eddy on Monday, August 14, 2000 - 02:30 pm: |
How does it feel to be free, so far away I wish it was me. Joe.
By Chris on Monday, August 14, 2000 - 02:42 pm: |
If you like your box set so much, why on earth haven't you opened it yet? Just wondered...
By James H on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 - 11:59 pm: |
Because I've already got all the singles... keep up!!
There was a time when I was rich and reckless with money - sigh...

By Chris on Wednesday, August 16, 2000 - 05:27 pm: |
So perhaps buying the box-set was a little foolish?
By 'Chris' on Wednesday, August 16, 2000 - 10:30 pm: |
Chris - you're a complete wanker. Just an observation. Don't bother to think of a 'witty' reply as I won't even bother to see whether you post one (there are those inverted commas again !).
By Chris on Wednesday, August 16, 2000 - 11:06 pm: |
I bet he does check this to see whether I've bothered to reply... he probably will, after all this is the sort of obsessive that keeps the bits of plastic you get free in packets of cereal in the hope they'll be worth something one day, and uses phrases like "mint condition".
By Helen on Thursday, August 17, 2000 - 03:55 pm: |
Why are you all bitching at each other? Haven't you got anything else better to do with your time?
Anyway, James have you still got the Observer CD for sale, as I'm quite interested, didn't hear about it before!
Hope to hear from you soon
By Chris on Thursday, August 17, 2000 - 06:21 pm: |
I'm sorry, but when he put my name in inverted commas it was a slur I could not ignore.
By James H on Friday, August 18, 2000 - 01:09 am: |
I don't know who did that post with your name in inverted commas, but it certainly wasn't me - I for one am sick of this whole conversation.
Yours, cereal-box-hoardingly,
James
P.S. What's the point of having a buy/sell/trade section if posters get absolutely roasted?
Just a thought...
By Joe on Sunday, August 20, 2000 - 01:40 pm: |
Sorry.
Eddy - I just knew you'd reply to that Gay Dad lyric...they're coming back you know...the new songs are "absolutely killer" according to Mr Jones.
By sas on Sunday, August 20, 2000 - 01:52 pm: |
By Eddy on Sunday, August 20, 2000 - 02:16 pm: |
Well for Mr Jones sake and mine, I hope these tracks don't kill Gay Dad.

Sorry....I live in Taiwan, and My English is not so good that I couldn't express myself clearly in English. ^^;;
I live in an area without seeing any box set on goods shelves in every record store. That's why I only have one way to get this by order at one of my familiar record store in Taipei. It cost my 4,350.00 NT dollars and I spent two weeks for waiting. According to the exchange rate, it's around US$131.82, or ?08.75, (Sorry. I'm not sure the rate among US$ & NT$ even ?& NT$ ^_^;;), and freight inc. of course. But my friend got one on shelves at another store in Taipei. It only cost her NT$3,700.00! >.<
Although I know I got an expensive one, I didn't regret the loss of my money. Because I know if I fly to UK for buying this box set and return, it might not only NT$5,000.00. (^_^;;)
By the way, could anyone tell me the freight (par avion or ship) from UK to Taiwan (Eastern Asia)? I have no idea about this.

yes you are correct....your english isn't that good! but just say to yourelf yeah, i bought it ook line and sinker and you will feel like smiling J

It really is quite creepy that people like us spend so much money on blur songs and that...I bet they're raking it in but hey they deserve it or something. I think that boxed set will be 50p in a jumble sale in ten years...right next to those collector oasis single things from 1995 that were in giant plastic benson and hedges boxes. They were really sad. Blur are great aren't they? I think it is weird that I started to like them right after my crippling take that stage and still do...I like that they grow up with you...when I was fourteen I liked parklife girls and boys et. al. but at eighteen I can amaze my friends with the strange musical musings of 13 and still be cool...CHEERS BLUR.
By nattklubb on Sunday, November 19, 2000 - 02:48 am: |
ha ha, pound signs, how DO i get them? and jaems, i'd love to buy stuff, but i'm wary of spending money and sending it to someone across the sea... THEY HAVE HMV IN ENGLAND? i never knew... what's it stand for anyway? aw, moomin, you're still cool? sigh... my friends will never be amazed or think i'm cool by blur... maybe i need different friends. ones that DON'T know the words to "who let the dogs out.."... and to elvira, congrats to you for having the courage to write (and sucks to thomas, whom i doubt can even compose a comprehensible 10 character sentence in ANY chinese language) and for doing what you could to get that set! i wish i wasn't so lazy i couldn't get off my arse and get a job to get it... oh well.
love to all!
nat.

HMV = his masters voice - it's that little dog listening to the gramaphone on the sign.
Was HMV originally a US store or a UK store? Anyway makes no difference to me as the nearest one is in Oxford or somewhere.
My friens used to think that my obsession with Blur was dead cool! It was so sweet, spending lunchtime listening to Parklife (and Space albums! We were young!)
By nattklubb on Sunday, November 19, 2000 - 06:51 pm: |
mine think that blur is the gayest thing in the world. switch? lol, thought not...
By Toby on Sunday, February 25, 2001 - 11:56 am: |
The above messages and responces are hilarious. You all should be on a disfuctional TV sitcom.
By the by, anybody know where I can buy some blur live bootlegs, preferably pre-Parklife?
By jubilee223 on Tuesday, May 1, 2001 - 03:34 am: |
DOH DOH DOH!!!!
HMV is, always has been and always will be an English shop. It stands for His Masters Voice and was originally an outlet for EMI records (Electronic & Musical Industries).

Jubilee

By nathallie on Thursday, May 17, 2001 - 09:20 pm: |
wow, i was just sifting through old boards and was caught by surprise by my own post - (I POSTED here? crazy). yeah, it's english. ah, i love you toby. being on a wacked-out sitcom would be tops, though i'd need one of those amazing lazyboys with a built-in fridge & toilet...
have a great day everyone!
(i have no idea, indigo. my right leg? probably not. don't even have a record player, and the only vinyl i've got is Tender, i won it, but it arrived with a big dent, *tear*...)
love, nat.
By indigo on Friday, May 18, 2001 - 05:20 pm: |
It's weird when you read stuff you don't remember posting isn't it? Almost makes you think that an incredibly dull imposter has started up again (TWI, there may be an opening!).
My little sister just dragged a record player out of the attic. My grandad gave it to me years ago, and the manual is from 1963. Hmmmm. She has just ordered a stylus for it (£20! I could buy Popscene for that!) and is convinced she can hook it up to her new CD burner and record all the vinyl we own onto CD. Seeing as she is incapable of resetting a clock, I doubt it.
By chris on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 - 10:28 am: |
oh wow, this is actually a really cool topic for people with blur stuff for sale....I'm thinking of selling my "Parklife" album cuz it's starting to skip too bad. lol.

10 year box set-filled with deer songs of blur?sounds delicious only to the degree that im from america and america is quite slow in receieveing good music from foreign places. I wouldnt mind purchasing it. all the singles established by blur are imminently sold out here. ive been listening to blur for quite awhile, but i never realized the fact that they too have singles just like american bands. and dam, they are plentiful of tracks.
to the communist coporate wankers that have replied above, I understand that you credence this vender man is trying to disembowel his victims by ripping them off tremendously, but you have to remeber that theres probably more to the set history than you think there is. who knows?.....james probably had to engage in some homosexual activites to gradually pay for each single in which the total tracks attributed from 127. you know what that means? thats 127 interactions. heh heh
back to my point, which was that i like blur... and to find good music i never had in the hands of mines, would be neat. i just dont know that if i buy it, will i get every thing you said that would be in there- the 127 songs?
your american neighbor robot,
creg
