I still think of Graham as probably my best mate... I don't think he likes me, I just feel close to Graham

Graham's Great. I think we both found the other interesting because of our backgrounds. He spent a lot of time at my house. My mum and dad were very artistic and encouraged that in him and he had things I didn't have. He taped everything. He had tapes of all these fantastic things like The Beatles and Mike Leigh. So we traded off each other. We both learned a lot from the other.

I used to go around and see you Damon and you'd play this weird stuff that was endless piano, with no singing in it at all. It was just nuts.

When I was at school, I never had any interest in pop music. Graham, you were the one who always knew about all the bands. I was just on this big 'This-is-what's-gonna-happen' thing. It never really occurred to me that I'd be doing anything else. I guess that makes me a pretty one-dimensional person, but... I guess it's quite insane to say, from the age of 11, 'I know I'm gonna be great' but that's what I did. People thought I was a complete, big headed twat.

When I was about 12, I used to think I must be a genius, but nobody noticed. If there is such a thing as genius... I was one, if there isn't I don't care.

I played drums since I was 11. But I've never been a drum bore. I don't like meeting other drummers and talk about drums.

There's something freakish about you, so you either consign yourself to the margins of society or think of it as unique.

When I was 13, I went to Carnaby Street in London and got my ear pierced and dyed my hair orange. That's why we find bands like Green Day hilarious, because we were dyeing our hair years ago.
