whenever i hear a particular blur song it reminds me of a particular moment in time, "young and lovely" for example reminds me of looking out my window, one day in july, smoking a cig and generally feeling completely at one with the world. "To the end" reminds me of a very drunk, summer night and "clover over dover" brings me back to a distinctly sad period of my life. Does anyone have some good or bad memories connected to a blur song?

blur are the past 10+ years of our lives. we seem to measure our passing of time in the mirror of theirs.
can I introduce you to the new blur? They're called the Dears, and come from my own Canada ... when I hear them, "theme from an imaginary film" comes to mind. or at least their first album, "Hollywood Bedtime Story". All I've heard off the new one is "Heathrow Deathrow". GO! RUN! check it out.

erm, "Parklife" reminds me of when I was 11 or so, and my best girlfriend had the cd, so when I was over we'd play it and do a skit in imitation of the video. I was Damon, hopping about and singing, etc. I wish I had a video of THAT.
And 13 is all about my first year of high school and all the loneliness/sadness/realisation that happens with that.
so I did answer pertaining to the topic.

ahhhhhhhh .... and "Clover over Dover" reminds me of that story some girl here typed up for us, about this couple who wrote poetry to each other, and the man jumped off a cliff. anyone else remember that? I printed it out and it's somewhere in my paper drawer ... that and Damon's recipe for tinned potatoes or something, which I've not get got around to making.

Clover Over Dover reminds me of a night I spent in Dover. The song's much nicer than the place.

Although listening to Blur's music usually makes me happy, most of their songs remind me of sad episodes in my life. Resigned for example, reminds of when I fell in love with my best friend and ruined the whole friendship. Took me two years to make it up to her again. If I didn't know better I'd think Jubilee was about me at the age 13 to 16. The whole selftitled album (my favorite, BTW) reminds me of being stood up by a girl in the streets of Oslo in the middle of january, and Coffee & TV reminds me of e period of my life when I had particularly low self esteem. But then there's Caramel, which reminds me of the girl that introduced me to Blur in the first place.

Sorry Dover lad, I'll admit you've got some impressive cliffs, and the surrounding countryside is very nice, but when you see the town on a wet Sunday evening it makes you want to throw yourself into the sea.
By Dover lad2k on Thursday, November 8, 2001 - 08:02 pm: |
Appology accepted. Yes, I know the feeling as the Dover sea is so crystal clean and clear with dolphins leaping, people surfing, fishes swimming and nude beaches. bliss.
By Chris on Thursday, November 8, 2001 - 08:15 pm: |
Yes... are we talking about the same Dover?
By everything on Friday, November 9, 2001 - 10:03 am: |

Lol Quintal- Kenz isn't talking about me, she's responding to Rob Rucks post above!
Nah Quintal- unfortunatley I have to go back to
uni earlier than everyone else so my summer holidays are cut short dammit- plus, If I wanted to visit Kenz, It would have added an extra $1,000 to my trip! as much as I love Kenz I couldn't afford it! I will meet her soon though.
;o)

So when is the Aussie Blur contingent going to meet up hey Quintal?
By Karla on Friday, November 9, 2001 - 09:38 pm: |
Best Days - reminds me of a really bad time and talking myself into thinking
those really were the "Best Days" in my life.
Entertain Me - listening to that real loudly and dancing. I always thought it had a James Bond/Jazzy groove to it.
Intermission - BlurChat (around 1998)

The Aussie contingent? Now THAT would be something! How many of us are there? You (caramel), me (Tossifer), Butter~Mobile, Scamp, Sammie, Roxy... There used to be more but they just dont come anymore.
By Butter~Mobile on Saturday, November 10, 2001 - 02:04 pm: |
I heard that Scamp was concussed in a car accident the other night, poor lad. He's in hospital, too, but is basically going to be okay. Let's hold hands and pray that he's home soon!!!1
And yes, that would be something!! It's too long since Melbourne, Quinty. And I'd be curious to meet any other Australia~Based Coperama's.
By mia on Saturday, November 10, 2001 - 04:44 pm: |
thanks everyone for letting me know some of your "blur" memories,
now what i want to know is which song sums up you and your life at this particular moment in time?
I would have to say, young and lovely, not because i am particularly young or lovely more the whole feel of it - it is sad but at the same time hopeful. It has a great feeling of melancholy about it. I love it!
By Da Luckster on Saturday, November 10, 2001 - 05:41 pm: |
If ya mean Blur song it'd be 'Slow Down' cos I feel so durn REBELLIOUS! Hahaha...
Er.
If you mean any song it'd be 'Last Nite' by the Strokes cos I just cannae stop dancing and dancing and da- Is Scamp all right?? Don't know him or anything but hey, take care.
Oh, as for the original question, 'Fade Away' reminds me of sitting on the school bus next to an old friend and sharing a walkman. We'd listen to Blur all the time. Then I moved schools. Sigh, I miss him.
By Quintal on Sunday, November 11, 2001 - 03:18 am: |
Scamp's Mommah said that he's out of the coma, but they're keeping him in hospital for an indefinite period to make sure he's okay. Buttergal visited him this morning and said he is his usual chirpy self hehe, and that he is convalescing rapidly.
By Hallie on Sunday, November 11, 2001 - 03:42 am: |
oh my ... it must be such a relief that he's alright. Almost seems like quite a few people have been in comas/out of consciousness lately (Paige's allergic reaction one comes to mind). In books, these occurences always seem to afford some sort of enlightenment ...
By caramel on Sunday, November 11, 2001 - 10:27 am: |
Poor Scamper. I hope he gets well soon! I can tell you one thing though, If he is in hospital indefinelty, he will get bored quickly. Butter Girl, make sure you take him some magazines or CD's and stuff. Lollies always go down well, as does chocolate! I hope he makes a quick recovery. Did he harm any other part of his body or was he just comatose?
Quintal- you guys want to come to Melb or something? We need to discuss our options.

All Your Life is the most personally meaningful song for me. The whole melancholic though somewhat upbeat mood - so me. I used to think it contained a great line too: "Watch the spiders on my bedroom ceiling/They've got big plans so they're not breeding." Alas, I got it wrong. It's "breathing" not "breeding", making it a bollocky statement, not a profound one.

Oh that's good. Well done Svamp.

I mean... arrrrghhhhhh comment previews are wasted on me...

Scamp's not in a coma; Occifer, you stop being silly! ~Attempts to frown crossly~
~Fails and laughs maniacally instead~
I think he just had a mild concussion (and let's hope he doesn't join that small percentage of people who become serial killers after getting concussions. Scamp's already lefthanded, so the odds are stacked against him!)
And Lucky, I guess he's just not as, erm, lucky as you!1
