Coping: Blur general: Graham's new album!

It's called "Crow Sit in Blood Tree", and here is what NME says about it:

"Graham Coxon - Crisis of confidence in Camden
COXON RECORDS NEW ALBUM IN BLUR!

BLUR's GRAHAM COXON has recorded another solo album to be released in July, NME.COM can reveal - and he recorded, mixed and mastered the entire project in just two weeks!

Speaking exclusively to NME.COM, Graham described the new album, called 'Crow Sit In Blood Tree' as having a "therapy vibe" and said it had been recorded as catharsis to a "general malaise" he had been feeling.

The album will be released at the end of July through Graham's own Transcopic label, through which he released his last two solo albums. Again, he is responsible for the cover art and he's also making five short films to go with a selection of songs from the record.

"It's quite a precious record to me," he said. "I always seem to write songs at some sort of crisis point...that's why I recorded it very fast. I finished it last Friday (June 1)."

However, Graham refused to be drawn on what exactly had created his personal crisis this time.

"There's always something, isn't there?" he mused. "I dunno, it was just sort of, general Camden psychosis I think. It was written in a general malaise - pretty much in the deeper depths of the dark little sea of me."

The full interview will be published in NME.COM features later today - click back to read what Graham has to say about fatherhood, the Lou Reed influence on 'Crow Sit In Blood Tree', Blur and Gorillaz..."

Sounds interesting. I might swap his last album for his new album.

By Scamp on Thursday, June 14, 2001 - 02:35 am:

Graham Coxon: enigma in spectacles.

my picture

I might swap his last two albums for a footstool.

Bollocks, the Golden D was great.

By Chris on Thursday, June 14, 2001 - 06:57 pm:

The Sky is too High - absolutely brilliant. Anybody who cannot appreciate it's subtle nuances and gentle acoustic finesse is a philistine and should be disregarded.

By Skrooie on Friday, June 15, 2001 - 05:37 am:

I thought the Golden D was utter, utter shite of the highest order. TSITH was lovely.

Bumped into Coxon last week in Camden, didn't look troubled in the slightest.

Guess the therapy must've worked.

Ack, Skrooie. Hobnobbin' so casually with the rich and famous. *shakes head wistfully* If only we could all be like you.

The Golden D was brilliant. A really fun album I reckon... Dunno sometimes cleverness and wuvvly melodies are just too much. Losing your mind now and then is very pleasant indeed.

Da na na na na na na na na naaa naaa na na na na na na na na na na hey!

By Joe on Friday, June 15, 2001 - 06:10 pm:

Both Graham's albums have been absolutely top notch family entertainment.

By Skrooie on Friday, June 15, 2001 - 11:18 pm:

Lol.

Fraid not, you'd have to fend off the blondes surrounding him to ask for anything like that. The only trouble that lad has is 'which one tonight, then ?'

Haha

Hey - did any of you know that Graham has a single out at the mo? I found it on vinyl in the bargain bin at HMV - I bought it, not just out of sheer curiosity as to what it sounds like, but mainly because it's on red vinyl and looks like a little toy record. The A side is called something like "Thank god for the rain" (I can't be arsed to go and get it) and sounds EXACTLY like Bowie arsing around on an acoustic guitar. The B side is called "You never will be" and is much more what I was expecting, which was a lot of noisy guiter and some mumbly vocals.

By The Occifer on Friday, August 3, 2001 - 07:44 pm:

Does anyone have that album?

By St*Rsh*PeD on Monday, August 6, 2001 - 02:40 am:

Isn't red vinyl great? I recently bought an original red vinyl album by The Damned - goddam bargain at only 75p, 'cept the little bugger wasn't in its origianl sleeve so it probably ain't worth nought. Ah, my money seeking intentions shine through.

When is Crow Sit on Blood Tree out? I'll be damned (ho ho! me and my puns!) if I know - there is never much coverage on anything Blur related these days. Graham sounds pretty pissed off and unimpressed lately with Damon's Gorillaz hijinx. I wonder how the Mercury Music news was recieved by the rest of Blur? I can imagine them being a tad pissed if it ends up winning ('cept we all know that the Mercury Music prize will always go to some unknown obscurity playing a recorder over and over whilst a cat runs over an untuned piano. A three legged cat at that. Wearing boots.)

Crow Sit On Blood Tree is out today, Monday 6th August :o)

By indigo on Monday, August 6, 2001 - 05:36 pm:

Haha St*Rsh*PeD, you made me laugh out loud! well done! And seeing as how Badly Drawn Boy won last year, this year it has to be obscure and avant garde. My money's on Ed Harcourt.

I like cats wearing boots a lot.
