Damon's sleeping with the fishes! (and playing the odd tune)

Coping: Blur general: Damon's sleeping with the fishes! (and playing the odd tune)
By St*Rsh*PeD on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 - 09:04 pm:

Anyone read about how Damon plays every song he writes to the tropical fish in his studio? I think its safe to say that the poor lads lost it. He says that the fish know if hes written a good song. I wonder how they inform him, hit their heads against the tank or summat, in a mini mosh-pit?

By Micky Maybrick {The Lad} on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 - 09:31 pm:

Heh - I heard that if ya play loud music in the same room as a fishtank, it's total torture for the fish coz their hearing is about 1000 times better than ours yeah, so the music is so loud it drives the fish mental. Albarno should have those PETA sods on his arse for animal cruelty yeah! haha, nice one.

Haha, Mickey you're so funny :-)

I adore 19-2000. If Damon's fish liked it, then I'm all for them having their little fishy ears blasted with it. do fish have ears?

By St*RSh*PeD on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 - 08:43 pm:

yes, I believe they do. But they also have very short term memories, so they'd probably forget the first two minutes of any song Damon played, making the whole thing pointless. Tut tut Damon - didn't they teach you "the life of a goldfish" at school?

By Song_1 on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 - 11:39 pm:

But hey they must know good music when they hear it.....although some of the thracks on the gorillaz album are a bit sketchy like starshine - im sure no relation to you starshaped. Damn that was under ten years ago, what the fuck have ya done Damon!!!I understand you've gotta move on but asking fishes....oh deary me

"Luci Brasi ah he sleeps with the fishes, but I am the mob"

-possibly the finest track on international Velvet, and one that I have had stuck in my head all day. Oh well. "when duty calls, gonna bust some balls,"

Well it's an interesting idea. I play my songs for my cat and as long as I don't go all Sonic Youth with the feedback, she loves it. I haven't noticed the reactions of my fish however. Damon's such a goofy guy, I've just gotta love him. =)

By St*Rsh*PeD on Friday, May 25, 2001 - 11:22 pm:

Hmmm, am I the only one who thinks that the words Goofy and Damon Albarn don't really mix? He seems so..so..bloody un-goofy (I had trouble thinking a good word!) Anyway, all I can say is that he'd better bloody stop playing to the fishes and playing with the sodding band, it's been bloody two years since 13 for chrissakes! How long does he think we can cope? Come on Graham, Alex and Dave (poor Dave - always last in any list) - get your bloomin arses into the studio, push the bloomin' fish tank into another room and get el Albarno to show you his bloody songs! And then RECORD them.

Anyhoo, enough raving. Oh and Song 1 - I'll have you know that Starshine is my evil twin. I'd appreciate it if she was never mentioned again, it'll just encourage her to do no good.

Miss Starshaped ~ no, you're not the only one! Damon = "GOOFY"? Ugh! Under any circumstances, what a vile word.

I also share your feelings regarding the lack of a fresh album.

Last night I walked by the building where I met Graham Coxon, aged 16, & as I looked wistfully up at the window where It took place, I wanted to burst into tears. It's a difficult feeling to define. Something a bit like "Ladies and gentleman, Elvis has left the building!"

Oh, & it was me who was 16, not Graham.

By nat on Saturday, May 26, 2001 - 07:03 pm:

he most definitely not goofy anymore, but back in the day...
and maybe he just needs a break. everyone needs to breathe - and they've done so much already. so whenever it comes, i'll be happy.

By kacy on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 - 02:47 am:

Maybe "goofy" was the wrong word, or was taken the wrong way...he's just, erm, eccentric? =)After all this is the man who said "silliness is an unavoidable state of being" (words to live by). I do wish they'd start a record already. Side projects are OK but I think we all want more Blur now...and they were always so prolific. *sigh*

By Micky {The Lad} on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 - 03:56 am:

Damon is an awright lad, lay off him awright? Remember at the Brit Awards in 95 or sommit, when Oasis wuz mocking Blur, yeah? Fucking funny night eh. Me and me brothers were just pissing ourselves cuz it wuz all so funny. Remember when Oasis sang that version of Parklife yeah? Fucking funny c*nts (sorry ladies) they are. Still a top band tho.
And remember when Liam kissed Michael Hutchence off INXS after he presented them wif an award, yeah? And then Noel said in the microphone "Has-beens shouldnt present awards to Gonna-Be's" Fuckng arrogant tosser. Cant help but love those two lads just the same.

By St*Rsh*PeD on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 - 07:15 pm:

So, back to BLUR, you have to remember that all the "goofy" Damon incidents happened years ago - now hes all "serious musician" man, which is no bad thing but tends to be a little boring. Bring back Crazy Parklife era Damon! Or "the Damester" as he was probably never known!

By Song_1 on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 - 06:54 am:

Damester, oh dear! damo..albarny, But he's still finding new ways with slagging of Oasis and pretending it isn't him, by blaming it on cartoon charachters - i don't think its gonna work though. I think its something to do with passing your 30th that tends to affect you. Starshaped have you found that you've experienced the same when you were at that grand old age. he he

Hmmm, you could be right Song 1, I think Damon just wants to eradicate all responsibility for his own life by becoming a cartoon character. In a recent interview I read (it was in Mojo I think) he kept referring to Gorillaz as 'they' as if he didn't want anything to do with it ( and who could blame him?). I think the old Damo we loved has retreated to a small, shut-off part of his brain that he doesn't wnat anything to do with anymore, but I kinda miss it. I think he should see a psychiatrist.
