I've heard they're a good live band, and they certainly have some very catchy tunes, but I get very bored by the "hopelessly heterosexual" theme to practically all the songs of theirs I've heard. Oh, and how about the girl they got to represent the "girl from Mars" in the music video, the one who gets Tim Wheeler all horny? She's about SEVEN YEARS OLD, for chrissakes!

Nat, when you say 'as do I', do you mean that, along with me, you get bored with the recurring "I'm a boy and I love this girl, but she's got me by the balls..." theme that seems to be the basis of so many Ash songs? (I'm NOT dissing them completely. I did say I think they've got some groovy and extremely catchy songs.)

Regarding the Girl from Mars video: there are obviously two versions. Maybe the one I meant, where the girl from Mars is represented by a 7 or 8 year old child, got banned for pandering to paedophiles. But I think we'd all have read about it if this were the case. It wasn't my imagination, though. I've got in on video. Promise!

Yeah, Ash are great. I'd say the new album is THE great pop album of the 21st Century so far...AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME GOD DAMMIT!

That said, the lyrics are fucking dire. Really bad. But the tunes....OH THE TUNES!

I listened to the album again and I must admit I like it a little bit more. Submission is definitely the highlight for me, despite the fact that it's a straight Happy Mondays rip job.

I'm sorry, but I hate Tim Wheeler the way some people hate Courtney Love. It's an innate thing, & as with the Courtney bashers, there's no point trying to talk some sense into me. Somebody I know knows Tim and says he's an arrogant wanker. Sorry Indigo, no scanned photo of him exists, as yet. Shame, as I can confirm that he really does resemble the Wheeled One. He gets very embarrassed & touchy when people mention it, although I think he's secretly flattered.

Oh, and to be honest, I don't REALLY loathe Timmy Wheeler as much as the average Courtney basher hates her. I'm thinking of starting a website making fun of all the "Courtney killed Kurt" websites. Ie, "This is why Courtney killed Kurt. 1)I don't like her. 2) She got rich when he died. So doesn't that make it OBVIOUS??! 3) I think she's ugly. 4) It's well known that ambitious women are usually murderers. 5) KURT WROTE HER MUSIC!!!1 Even though he was alive during the making of Live Through This and heard all the songs, he was prepared to let Courtney steal all his music because as we all know, Kurt was a saint...6) I don't like Courtney...and so on and so on."

But to return to the Wheely Boy...It's just that he looks as though he's VERY AWARE of how handsome he is. Bit like Damon Albarn used to be, but without Damon's cheeky monkeyfaced charm to balance it out!

well prissy, my knowledge of tim wheeler only comes from pictures on a few web sites, cd booklets, and a few video clips from songs...
(i actually didn't find him quite attractive until the vid clips) - and am thus contently oblivious to his "faults".

ooh, i remember a time when i was about 12 and a courtney love wanna-be teenybopper (in my own mind, at least). thank god those days are over (oh god, yes! make that site... damn neurotic kurt fanatics - upset me like all those "ew, kate moss is so disgusting and i hate her and all supermodels with a passion" women)
