Whats all of this about? Is it total rubbish, the rants of a sour ex-friend, or does it hold some truth?

Coping: Blur general: Whats all of this about? Is it total rubbish, the rants of a sour ex-friend, or does it hold some truth?

I'd think perhaps, Damon especially do feel sort of...I dont know, they are'nt pleased with being a pop band. So I think this does hold some truth. However the bit about Blur stealing Pavements style, fuck that, I hate Pavement and I love Blur, and the two are'nt that similar.

By nittaya on Saturday, April 14, 2001 - 01:16 am:

wow. that is so repetitive it does my head in.

who else read the article in Q, was it?, where that guy's being interviewed (from pavement, over his solo album), and it mentions ol' damo & jus? it was... interesting, that bit, in my op.

well, have a great day you all!

love, nat.

hehe, now wasn't THAT odd - complaining about repetitiveness & all... & then i click the button-majigger twice by accident... fie on me for that then.

By indigo on Saturday, April 14, 2001 - 12:59 pm:

*Twilight Show Theme* doodoodoodoodoodoo

btw, is there any reason behind the name liaeosghnv or is it just random typing?

By Lucky on Saturday, April 14, 2001 - 03:09 pm:

Malkmus is a toad. Cunt musician.

By nathallie on Sunday, April 15, 2001 - 12:41 am:

random typing. couldn't just put in "nat" again, could i have? too boring.

By indigo on Sunday, April 15, 2001 - 11:30 am:

well, you brought a little excitement into my life. hey, its easter! a lovely chocolate eggy type of day. happy easter everybody!

"No-one's ever going to say that they're this brilliant, creative thing, like Radiohead. That's their curse on the pop level."

Brilliant, creative thing like RADIOHEAD? Yes, I'm aware plenty of people adore the 'head (as they are affectionately known in lesser quarters), but I fail to see what the fuss is all about. Another pompous passel of Americans with stadium rawk a'plenty, no Kurt Cobain~esqué irony just Eddie Vedder ego: everywhere you look,
It can sew, it can cook
It can talk, talk, talk.

Blur are a brilliant, creative thing.

By The Occifer on Monday, April 16, 2001 - 01:53 pm:

Yes, they are. But, Anastasia Charrier, I agreed with everything else the little ex-Pavement punce had to say for himself.
Radiohead a pompous, preening passel of calculating performers? Possibly. But obviously not American, thank fuck. And yes, slightly lacking in irony, but no more so than Kurt Cobain in my opinion, and certainly FAR LESS cock-rockin', stadium shakin' ^ROCK^ than Nirvana.
I do enjoy Blur more than Radiohead though. It feels a bit like loving your girlfriend sincerely and wholly even though you understand that Naomi Campbell exists & is perfectly available.

By Anastasia on Monday, April 16, 2001 - 02:11 pm:

Ah yes, *silence*. I wanted Radiohead to be American, so I fantasized that they were. I still find them aggravating & pompous. Especially that stupid fool in the "Creep" video with the side part in his hair.

I don't care what the papers say!
You'll be "Tania", any way!
And you joined the SLA!
They say that you were brainwashed,
No, but I don't think so!

A penny for the first boy or girl who can name dat song/pop culture reference.

By sarah on Monday, April 16, 2001 - 11:19 pm:

nittaya: what issue of Q was that in? what did it say? i still maintain an avid interest in the glory days of damon and justine when it was all 'performance' and bohemianness and true lurve. does anyone else agree that things have never been the same since?

oh by the way, joe and ian: are you coming to visit me in cambridge or wot? i will buy you some crumpets and take you punting, oh do say you will visit! i'm going back to the fair place on sunday. see yers.

By indigo on Tuesday, April 17, 2001 - 09:27 am:

Where are you in Cambridge and what are you studying (sorry to bring the conversation down to such a boring topic!) cos I'm going to the Trinity hall open day on the 28th and I'm thinking of applying.

By BakeSale on Tuesday, April 17, 2001 - 02:45 pm:

Last night I went to a Stephen Malkmus solo gig. Lord it was dull. I am now officially middle aged.

"Is your name Lola?"
"Yes, my name is Lola.."
"No, listen to the question, is your name Lola?"
"No."
"And do you have feathers in your hair?"
"Only when I've been with owls."

By The Occifer on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 - 03:14 pm:

Ha ha ha. Nice.

I'm bored.

Hi Indigo, I'm at King's College and I'm studying English. God, I sound like a Blind Date contestant or something...

By indigo on Friday, April 20, 2001 - 05:25 pm:

except you hardly ever get Blind Date contestants from Kings - hey, what the hell do i know, I only watch the show when i'm babysitting without cable - Kings may be a hotbed of crazed Blind Date participants. (hohumm, anyway...)
Is Cambridge good? Does it really matter what college you go to? Is the interview really that scary? And why the hell is this topic about owls?

By nat on Friday, April 20, 2001 - 10:25 pm:

ah, someone asked which Q issue?...
april, may maybe? (it was at the Virgin store in Times Square, eve of April 24th i believe.... if that helps any)

By Bobble on Saturday, April 21, 2001 - 02:32 pm:

I went to a Malkmus gig on monday (was that the17th? I don't know any more... easter holidays) If anyone else was there on monday (in the manc uni), then I was one of the prats at the fron shout ing stupid things at them. Me and my mate offered Clearlake sweeties! mmmm! I thought clearlake were absolutely brilliant, and the was some kind of commercial sheen over malkmus that made him really rather boring. I did prefer clearlake, especially as malkmus tried to cover 'creep' and forgot the words! He he. And in the creep video, Jon Greenwood looks welll fine, in a molko way, of course, but no way as sleazy.

Pavement better than blur in some ways, but Blur have that cockney charm! When they ditched that, I kind of went of them, though I enjoy playing Coffee and TV (if not actually listening to it) Sorry! And Bugman's well fun to play.
