Ok, this is something me and my sister talked about a while ago. I would like to fall asleep to something soft, Enya or something by Johann Sebastian Bach's 'Air'.
And I would definitely like to wake up to 'Lucky' (Radiohead) I think the line 'it's gonna be a glourious day' is a good way to start a new day. Maybe it's a good idea to start a new day with the right frame of mind.
By Cazza on Friday, August 25, 2000 - 07:39 pm: |
ah, good question Maddy. but a good topic. I have to think about it, ok?
I'd maybe like to fall asleep to something by Radiohead. maybe 'excit music for a film'. but I'm not very sure though. as I said, I have to think about it more. it's so many song that could be perfect to fall sleep to. right.
wake up to? hmm.. something soft there aswell as I'm so slow in the morning. I think, maybe, 'Nice Dream' by the same group as above would be a good song to wake up to as it's slow and soft. atleast in the begining. I have to think more about that aswell.
or maybe something happy, a love song, a happy love song would be great. as I'm very happy at the moment.
does any happy love songs excist? I don't think so. damn.

That would have to be something off the eponymous, glorious new (released today) album from JJ72. Perhaps "Surrender" or my ultimate teenage angst song "Snow". Not that I have any angst right now. It's fair to say I am very happy at the moment, loving life to the full. But just don't mention the homework.
Pulp and Beck were great at Reading. "Something Changed" "Do You Remember The First Time?" and "Babies" were top notch from Jarvis and co, as were all the singles off Midnite Vultures, "Deborah" and "Where Its At" as far as Beck was concerned.
Sorry, I'm living alone at the moment so must talk to someone about Reading. Anyone?
By fucked up, locked up on Monday, August 28, 2000 - 09:26 pm: |
ok, here I am posting as I said I would..
I don't really know.. I'm tried as hell right now which make any question sound incredible serious and hard.. so my mind is locked
I can't enter..
I can't think.. (oh, that's nothing new, is it?)
right now I wanna fall asleep to creep by stone temple pilots,
or maybe some agressive, depressing, twisted rock song with too many vocals and instument in it so that everything just sound like one big mess and so that it's unable to tell what they really are singing so that you can make up the lyrics by yourself... and so that you can lay there feeling like you're in a fucking mental hospital and ready to loose your mind or whatever
I can't think of a song to wake up to, doesn't feel like it matters..
I mean, who wanna wake up?!
By Lucky on Tuesday, August 29, 2000 - 09:01 am: |
Oh, you mean 'Who the Fuck?' by Captain Coxo.
By Eddy on Tuesday, August 29, 2000 - 02:31 pm: |
Ian, on the topic of JJ72, on a recent Melody Maker CD, one of their songs, Snow in the title I fink, has a blatant melody rip off from somewhere, but I canny pin point the source. One reason why JJ72, are no where near glorious.
By locked up, fucked up on Tuesday, August 29, 2000 - 06:17 pm: |
who the fuck?
isn't that the song when he says he wanna bring nick drake back to life?
it was probably when I heard it that I actually started thinking he was pretty cool after all...
oh, maddy, why haven't you answered my clever message,
I'm expecting an answer when I finally did write something on this bloody subject..
By Joe on Tuesday, August 29, 2000 - 07:32 pm: |
No, that's I Wish.
Ian's feeling on top of the world because at this very moment he's shagging my sister! What a lovely thought! I think Ian has finally crossed to the dark side, judging by his running off with her and abandoning us several times at Reading. Still, if he's having fun then at least he's not being miserable....if you get my logic. Christ I'm so fucking cross today. I haven't felt this angry for ages. Cunt.
By Eddy on Wednesday, August 30, 2000 - 02:02 pm: |
So how old is your sister Joe??
By Joe on Wednesday, August 30, 2000 - 06:45 pm: |
Two years Ian's youngerer. I'm not cross about them...I've got used to it now. I was cross about my own personal traumas.
By Ian on Wednesday, August 30, 2000 - 09:05 pm: |
(In the style of Stavros) Eddy just shut up your views on JJ72 have been stated before and if you go nitpicking through different songs looking for things that sound slightly similar to other stuff you are clearly going to find them. It's a pity you feel the need to do such a thing and not appreciate what is clearly good music.
And Joe, at 7.32 we were merely watching Eastenders! By the way, Joe's sister (Who, coincidentally, DOES have a name of her own) would like to see all the rodent-type animals in the world dead- even chinchillas! I felt shocked and saddened to hear this.

i would like to fall asleep to 'this is a low' or 'the ship song' (nick cave) or 'rocknroll suicide' by david bowie... actually that one might be a bit loud. I would like to wake up to 'stop whispering' by the luvverly radiohead.
ian and joe: nice to hear you had a good time at reading and enjoyed pulp: i saw them last week at the edinburgh festival and heard some of their new songs, mighty fine they were too. i also liked their video projections, which featured many birds (of the feathered variety). a very nice tall man kindly took some photos of jarv for me. i also moshed a lot to 'do you remember the first time?'. the only downer of the night was that security confiscated my body-spray. i mean, really, what am i gonna do with it, spray it in people's eyes like mace??

By sarah on Friday, September 1, 2000 - 11:29 am: |
just to add a little to the JJ72 debate...
they were meant to be supporting pulp in edinburgh. i was really looking forward to them and my sister (a major fan) was v. jealous. but... on the night i discovered that they had cancelled 'due to TV commitments'! seems like they have already been corrupted by fame. pah!
on the plus side, i do like 'oxygen'.
p.s. sorry about the lack of capitals. i'm just in a bit of a can't-be-arsed mood.
By Joe on Friday, September 1, 2000 - 07:35 pm: |
Fair enough.
Ian's become quite obsessed with JJ72, on a scale not seen since the great Blur obsession of september '99....
By Ian on Saturday, September 2, 2000 - 12:30 pm: |
Not quite that bad really, the blur obsession was allowed to fester cos we were both fucking saddos. Remember the whole "let's have an entire conversation using only blur lyrics" thing? Although today I got my photos developed from when I met the JJ's on Thursday. On one I look fine, but on the one when I'm with (Eddy's nemesis "Dolly-bird bassist")Hilary I look a right gurning chimp! Doh....There goes my(admittedly slim) chance of ever shagging her.
By Cazza on Sunday, September 3, 2000 - 10:58 am: |
I've been thinking about this for a quite long time. Everytime I've heard a song, I've been thinking if that song would be a good song to fall asleep/wake up to. And I think I've found the songs now...
I'd like to wake up to Everything Will Flow by Suede. And fall asleep to Steam Will Rise by Silverchair.
The Silverchair song is for sure but I'm not too sure if I'd like to wake up to suede yet. I have to tink some more...
By Eddy on Sunday, September 3, 2000 - 02:37 pm: |
JJ72 are shit.
I saw Oxygen on TOTP, and it was shit.
His singing was shit, and out of tune.
The tune was shit.
If this is all Britain have to offer, I feel quite happy.
By th on Sunday, September 3, 2000 - 05:00 pm: |
The singer from JJ72 is a bloke?
Damn, I need my ears tested, I thought it was girly.
Or do I need my hearing checked? Anyone else thought the singer was a female?
By R~S~P on Sunday, September 3, 2000 - 07:36 pm: |
The JJ72 album is quite good, if you enjoy listening to some Irish folk complaining in a nonsensical fashion. I quite like it. And yes, the singer does sound like a girl. But the Bassist is a girl, and a damn fine one.
By Ian on Sunday, September 3, 2000 - 08:41 pm: |
They really have to be seen live to be believed. It really doesn't matter how many people hate them- they have a huge fanbase already as I discovered when I went to meet them at Virgin Megastore in Oxford Street and the queue stretched round the entire floor. The Travis Toploader and Coldplay phenomenon- in which boring fuckers write boring souless music appears to win most people over these days and so at least JJ72 are provoking a reaction- as exciting bands tend to.
Oh, if you do want a shite new band Eddy I suggest you listen to King Adora- yes! They are transvestites! But that doesn't automatically make you a decent band! Cunts!
By Chris on Sunday, September 3, 2000 - 11:39 pm: |
King Adora... I nearly died during their set at the Reading Festival due to a group of over-enthusiastic moshers. Don't mention their name again.

Good morning lethargy....
I just got back from my lovely holiday in Greece and I am really tired, and this typing is really slow aargh
anyway, I managed to sell my Reading ticket but i spent the whole week with my family (wahey) fuming that i had to miss reading AND jj72 AND my best friend went to both AND to a secret Embrace gig in Cornwall and met all of Embrace plus the bloke out of ColdPlay!
oh well i'm not bitter (ha ha) because she did get me a signed copy of JJ72. im still a little pissed off though cos im not seeing her till wednesday when im back at school, so i cant listen to it till then. AAARRGGHHH
OK, saner now. Guess what i got in my GCSEs? I got home to find them lying on the doormat, opened them and found......
2 As and 7 (yes 7!) A*s!!!!!!!
This made me happy enough to drag myself onto the computer and put on Hunky Dory!
right im going to bed

Hmm, I have heard a lot of good things about JJ72, but I haven't decided yet, if I shall buy their album or not...
By indigo on Monday, September 4, 2000 - 05:25 pm: |
Hello again. I woke up about 1/2 an hour ago to Andy Warhol" after falling asleep on "Oh you pretty things", so actually my ravings may end up being relevant to the topic ... ha ha! It's not actually a good album to fall asleep to - I had a very twisted dream involving David Bowie and the cast of the X Files (you don't want to know what happened). Tip - don't leave your CD player on repeat all night.
Anyway, i'm happy again because i listened to my answering machine and found out my History result. Now I've got 8 A*s!
BTW, before anyone starts attacking my taste in music, I will defend every band I've mentioned except Embrace and Coldplay.
By th on Monday, September 4, 2000 - 08:16 pm: |
I'm going to listen to the JJ72 set recorded at reading this evening on radio1. I'll make up my mind then if it really is a woman lead singer or not.....
Luke
PS 8 A*'s? is that all? These exams must be getting harder since I did them....
By Joe on Monday, September 4, 2000 - 10:03 pm: |
Jeez, I thought I did well with my 3 A*'s and now my girlfriend gets 6 and indigo gets 8. Christ. May as well chuck out that oxbridge application form....
...King Adora were the biggest disappointment of my life. I was expecting something wonderful...instead I get some bloke shouting like some special brew-addled scotsperson with a particular penchant for Old Holburn rollies that are about four centimetres thick, but who looks like a horse in a cardigan. I was expecting a punkier Young Offenders....who remembers them? They were a fantastic band.

JJ72's singer is a woman. Definately.
By indigo on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 - 09:33 am: |

Anytime I have trouble sleeping I put on the Trainspotting album (which happens to be my favorite album) and I am out like a rock before I can finish the second song. Also If I study whilst listening to it, I almost always score perfect on my tests the next day. Especially if I listen to Blur, Lou Reed, Pulp consecutively.

okay, i've just started reading this topic... this is what i discern so far (as i continue reading, i'll make additions/corrections)
joe and ian are about 18 now. stav(ros, joe) is 17. joe's younger sister is 16, thus one year younger than stav and dating ian. tell if i've got it... hm... i once woke up to tragically hip's "gift shop". normally i wouldn't have been able to stand that song, but it was very eerie that time, to wake up to it... in '99 all i would listen to before bed was 13... lovely. what's the grossest thing you eat that actually tastes good? my mummy separates egg whites from the yokes, adds a whole lot of sugar to each, and them beats each one until foamy, and then we eat it with a spoon , raw.
have a great day!
love,
