By TobyZ on Thursday, April 5, 2001 - 12:30 pm:

Radiohead,
Placebo,
Belle & Sebastian,
Soundtrack of Our Lives,
The Hives,
Refused,
Smashing Pumkins,
Broder Daniel,
Håkan Hellström and so on are all bands/artists that matters...

By The Occifer on Thursday, April 5, 2001 - 04:45 pm:

I'm not sure what you mean by "matter", but anyway, amongst others, I like the Dandy Warhols. May 2 - The Arena, Brisbane. Yeah...

By Candy Cane on Thursday, April 5, 2001 - 05:36 pm:

PLACEBO! SMASHING PUMPKINS!

By SolveMyMystery on Thursday, April 5, 2001 - 06:26 pm:

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! YOU HAVE TO TRY HARDER THAN THAT! DON'T CONSIDER ALL THE OLD HIPPIE SHIT. ALSO, DO YOU THINK THOSE BANDS ARE BETTER THAN BLUR??? I DON'T THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN OASIS.

By Lucky on Thursday, April 5, 2001 - 07:01 pm:

No, not better. But they "matter".

By gfi on Thursday, April 5, 2001 - 08:33 pm:

By wakey on Thursday, April 5, 2001 - 11:45 pm:

there the only 2 bands that i get excited over when their releasing new material ( im not 2 fussed over anything else, i can take it or leave it )

By ZACH+------- on Friday, April 6, 2001 - 12:58 am:

Amnesiac is makeing me sick... i cant stand waitting for it... Bitting my nails

By alex on Friday, April 6, 2001 - 03:21 am:

Its been recieved really well, from what I've read from the reviews of the playbacks in Canada. I'm really excited to see what song they chose to be their first american single. Sadly Nothing To Fear, or Egyptian Song as its now called, or wait, shit, now its Pyramid Song..anyway, thats not being released in the states *whimpers*(one of my favourite songs of theirs) The exciting thing is, I cant wait to see what the B-sides are, Lift, True Love Waits, Big Boots, Big Ideas, oh so many possibility's!!!

PS, GYBE! matters, and Oasis, Travis? I own these artists albums and stuff, but..are they really quality music? I think not, just fun pop stuff. I'd say look at Tortoise or something like that if you want to hear something that matters.(and you all need to grow out of Led Zeppelin)

By TobyZ on Friday, April 6, 2001 - 12:30 pm:

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By TobyZ on Friday, April 6, 2001 - 01:15 pm:

By Bastard the cat on Friday, April 6, 2001 - 11:44 pm:

Remarkable. By the looks of things, this subject was posted in mid-1995 but has taken nigh on 6 years to finally surface. Usually posts appear after a couple seconds. Hmm.

By gfi on Saturday, April 7, 2001 - 02:25 am:

quality music is really relative... a matter of taste I think...

By Joe on Saturday, April 7, 2001 - 03:15 pm:

Well said. Travis are shite.

By Micky {The Lad} on Monday, April 9, 2001 - 11:48 am:

I saw my first Wycombe shirted person last week - it looked suspiciously new though. Dunno why I just thought of this, but it was a bird with big jugs and a bod just built for shagging. Maybe that's it.

Ok, listen up, something more that needs to be said yeah, Liverpool beat one classy team on their FA cup run. They beat Leeds, but they were lucky to win that as Leeds are class, if crap. I give credit where it's due. I'm a fair man.
Liverpool is trying out for the crap treble of Worthington, FA and uefa...and as our Rick says, a cheapo treble. United's treble was MUCH classier, FUCKING CLASSIER! We went THRU Arsenal, Barca, Juventus and Bayern. If Liverpool achieve it, they only get through Arsenal, Wycombe,Alaves and Barca...NOT so classy except for Barcelona!

Right, admit this, yeah: Last time Arsenal and Liverpool met Liverpool thrashed them 4-1... I was going for Liverpool then coz Arsenal are bollox. But I'll regret saying that. GO ARSENAL AND BEAT THE FUCK OUT OF THOSE SCOUSERS!!!!!It'll be a VERY tight match, yeah, good thing we're getting it in FOX sports round our way....

By TobyZ on Monday, April 9, 2001 - 12:16 pm:

Well said. Footy is shite.

By indigo on Monday, April 9, 2001 - 07:17 pm:

football is very shite. i can say this as a person who goes to school in Wycombe and who spends many hours of her life in Wycombe. The Wanderers suddenly got all these banners and shirts and everything printed up, and everyone in Wycombe was at home yesterday afternoon. Well, it made my job in the bookshop slightly duller than normal, having no customers at all. Its going to look really sad now they have to take down all the banners over the council offices saying "go for it lads".

By Ian on Thursday, April 12, 2001 - 11:29 am:

A lot of people say footy is shite because their one reference point is the Coca-Cola-Sony-Microsoft-Corporate-Cock-Sucking-Premiership, which is a actually quite exciting but this is detracting from my main statement I'll start again
REAL football is Cambridge United on a rainy Tuesday night losing 0-1 to Halifax in the Autoglass Shield with the smell of the bacon butties permeating my soul but with a last gasp equaliser which makes grown men hug each over like little girls...only festivals can do similar things to complete xenophobes. I bet no-one knows what I'm talking about, but it is fun to experience.

Anyway, at Cambridge United once they played the entire second side of Modern Life is Rubbish before the match...which was fucking odd looking back.

By Ian on Thursday, April 12, 2001 - 11:30 am:

Oh, and the Super Furry Animals matter in a way Oasis could never understand.

By TobyZ on Thursday, April 12, 2001 - 01:01 pm:

"grown men hugging each other like little girls". . . I couldn't have described soccer better myself.

By kacy on Thursday, April 12, 2001 - 01:35 pm:

Indeed. Being American, you probably prefer grown men in tight pants slapping each other's arses.

By ZACH+---------- on Friday, April 13, 2001 - 03:10 am:

We have gotten off topic... Liam Gallegar (not worthy of spelling his name right) is a fucken git who should be forced to spend the rest of his creative life covering beatles songs in a lonely country pub...

By indigo on Friday, April 13, 2001 - 11:32 am:

I once met Liam in Lane End studios. They're only a couple of miles from where I live, and my best mate was doing work experience there a few months ago when they started recording the new album. She phoned me up and goes "aaah! oasis are here!". I went over, blagged my way in with the cleaner and had a little peek at Liam! Actually, it's not that exciting now I think about it. I was talking to a bloke from Yorkshire who is obsessed with oasis and he couldnt understand why I didnt camp outside noels house every night.

By ESSEX-DOG on Friday, April 13, 2001 - 07:37 pm:

THREE BANDS IN THE LAST TEN YEARS MATTER

1.BLUR

2.OASIS

3.MANIC STREET PREACHERS

THATS IT NO MORE

OH AND SOME BAND FORM LIVERPOOL ABOUT 30 YEARS AGO BUT DONT WORRY ABOUT THAT

By alex on Saturday, April 14, 2001 - 12:38 am:

I dont understand how anyone that likes The Manics and Blur can possibly say that Oasis have produced anything revolutionary or at all influential. They've followed the standard, and produced the standard typical music, the only thing that sets them apart from most is they created enough hype around them that they got noticed by enough people.
They have good pop tunes, but its nothing I have'nt heard before.

By nat on Saturday, April 14, 2001 - 01:00 am:

i'm not too taken in by the manics. i wonder why...

By alex on Saturday, April 14, 2001 - 08:23 pm:

I could see not liking them. They have a certain quality to them that is'nt very likable, i.e. the worst album ever..Generation Terrorist's. However the rest of their albums are nice and they put out amazing single's(Motown Junk, Masses Against The Classes) and from what I'm told Know Your Enemy far surpasses what was widely thought of as a disapointment, This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours.(I liked it)

By ZACH+--------- on Sunday, April 15, 2001 - 12:57 am:

Ok so everyone i know is all like "zach you should cheek out the manic street preachers" or "zach manic street preachers ar sooo great" well ok i took their advice! Let me just say... that was the worst 15$ i have EVER spent... what the fuck! do they really let people record that crap? Fuck I'm PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Ian on Sunday, April 15, 2001 - 07:27 pm:

Manics really have gone downhill. It is such a cliche, but their earlier stuff was way better. This Is My Truth... was rubbish, and since then only Masses Against The Classes has been essential.

By alex on Sunday, April 15, 2001 - 08:54 pm:

What album did you get Zach(sword)? I could imgaine you being disapointed with any of them really. Except for The Holy Bible, thats a good time right there. While their first two albums sound kind of...bad, the lyrics tend to be better then most. The Holy Bible has good music and great lyrics. The last two are nothing spectacular in either field.

By An Angrey ZACH+------------- on Sunday, April 15, 2001 - 08:58 pm:

i got some peice of shit called something about truth or something.... i was so pissed!!!! AHHHHHH i could have gotten more Bjork or the Badly Drawn Boy or a Blur bootleg!!!!!!!!!!!! i am SOOOOOOO FUCKKKKKIINNNGGG PISSSSSSSSSSED i hate wasting money on shit i will never listen to again.... I cant even finish the damn album it was so bad..... Fuck!

By MusiqueNut on Sunday, April 15, 2001 - 10:01 pm:

The only album that matters over the last 3 years has been Beaf. They are fucking excellent. I went to see them live in Bradford last week. Their singers a fat bastard but can he write songs.

By kacy on Monday, April 16, 2001 - 03:44 am:

I thought fat bastard Bretty was the bass player? Does he sing too? My my.

By alex on Monday, April 16, 2001 - 05:01 am:

Shut up Zach, it is possible for you to trade it in, you'll get five or so dollars for it, its better then letting something you'll never listen to again sit around and collect dirt.

Give a few tracks a chance, I bet you'll wind up not hating it so much. I felt the same way when I got This Is My Truth too, but I gave it time.

By ZACH on Monday, April 16, 2001 - 05:25 pm:

lmao. this topic rox!

By ZACH+------------ on Tuesday, April 17, 2001 - 05:25 am:

dident fuckeing right that last message ... I would never be so fucking stupid as to use the terms Imao(which i still dont know what it means[please explain]) or rox... who ever wrote it PISS OFF!

By R~S~P on Tuesday, April 17, 2001 - 09:30 pm:

It's an 'L', Zach, not an 'I'. It means 'laugh my ass off'. And credit for refusing to use it, you just went up a notch in my estimation. I thought abbreviations like that would be right up your street.

By sarah on Thursday, April 19, 2001 - 08:45 pm:

The only Manics song I can truly say I like is 'Motorcycle Emptiness' which is a work of overblown genius. Altogether now, 'this wonderful world of purchase power...'

By indigo on Friday, April 20, 2001 - 05:20 pm:

I was so happy when they played that at the Brixton gig - even a few songs off This is My Truth Tell Me Yours (which I have listened to twice in two years) like Tsunami sounded excellent, and the whole "Know Your Enemy" thing seemed to make sense - I now love Wattsville Blues, Miss Europa and Ocean Spray. it's a much better album than TIMTTMY, even though the lyrics aren't as good as Holy Bible.

By Anonymous on Saturday, April 21, 2001 - 01:29 pm:

Okay, people... Blur WAS important. What about the pixies, radiohead, led zep, beatles? What about the smiths? What about REM? These are all pretty important as well (especially the pixies... mmmm)

By Si on Sunday, April 22, 2001 - 01:00 am:

That's right, pilgrim.

By nittaya on Sunday, April 22, 2001 - 03:14 am:

important to WHAT, anon? they're still important to us. and yes, the pixies ARE luscious...

and i just spent $109 on tickets for the oasis/black crowes/space hog concert, for seats waaaay back & up... but to justify: one of my best friends is leaving me to go to college in India for two years, and she's never been to a rock concert, and would love to see Oasis, so this is like a "good bye good luck i'll miss you" gift... sigh. but c'mon, let's all smile - were i her i'd go to (though perhaps not to India)

so EVERYONE smile - it makes for a brightened day, hopefully.
love, nat.

By shellie on Sunday, April 22, 2001 - 05:32 pm:

yeah blur are still the most important band eva. i just found out their Wu names........
graham's Wu name is violent toilet thing.....Damon's is asthmatic enemy of god (cool), Dave is the lesbian pimp (hehehe) and i forget what alex's was...probably something lame......

By ESSEX-DOG on Wednesday, April 25, 2001 - 03:26 pm:

THE PIXIES ARE THE MOST OVERATED AMERICAN POP BAND EVER WHAT ABOUT WEEZER OR PAVEMENT BANDS THAT CAN SING AND WRITE A FUCKIN TUNE

By alex on Thursday, April 26, 2001 - 04:45 am:

Er.. The Pixies really are'nt(weren't) a "pop" band, they were along the lines of celebrated college rock band.
Beyond that, I love the Pixies, but I wont comment with that as my biased. All I say is, Weezer? Are you kidding? And Pavement is'nt a very good band either.

By ZACH+------------ on Thursday, April 26, 2001 - 04:13 pm:

Hmmmm? I just drove 600 miles to the "Amnesiac" playback and after hearing it I can safely tell you that Radiohead IS the most important and talented band on earth... sorry, I like Blur alot and all but Gram Coxon just ain't Johnny Greenwood. Let the hate mail Rain down on me. raiiinnnn doowwwn... sorry for a minute their I lost myself....

By ZACH+----------- on Thursday, April 26, 2001 - 08:12 pm:

i couldent resist that pun... im a weak boy

By OutOfOrder on Thursday, April 26, 2001 - 09:57 pm:

Radiohead were important I believe back in the days of THE BENDS and still upto OK COMPUTER, then it all went wrong with KID A.And theya re not important anymore.

See to be important you have to be commercial it seems nowadays(I dotn agree with this)Radiohead are bnot ocmmercial anymore, decreasing their popularity and they dotn carry the weight anymroe of being as importnant as they coudl have been.

(sorry for spelling)

By ZACH+------------ on Friday, April 27, 2001 - 12:56 am:

Radiohead are comeing back into the spotlight with amnesiac... Its a bit more commercial thaan kid a was and they are hipeing it like mad... mark my words!

By indigo on Friday, April 27, 2001 - 05:31 pm:

I really like the video for Pyramid Song - and don't the instruments sound kind of shy? I was trying to define it with my friend and we decided it has a stammering piano part and cautious drums. I've already ordered my special edition copy of Amnesiac!

By ZACH+------------ on Friday, April 27, 2001 - 08:11 pm:

Good for you indigo!!

By alex on Saturday, April 28, 2001 - 04:27 am:

Does it really matter who matters? If you like a band then shouldn't that be enough?

For the sake of a good time, fuck off, Radiohead STILL matters. And er.. if commercial music is the only music that may potentialy be considered as "mattering" then no artist is really of any importance now are they? No artist of any caliber anyway.

Kid A was definately no OK Computer, or even The Bends, or atleast I did'nt like it as much, but its not to say the music is'nt quality.

I know personally I did'nt like the album as much as their second and third attempts probably because there is'nt any really strong emotional connection to the album. I mean, when I got the Bends, and when I got OK Computer, I was going through some more adversity, now I'm just boring and I've got no real link to it, not like the other two anyway.

FYI, I've fallen in love with Pablo Honey all over again, I'm tired of people taking the piss out of it all the time. I love that ablum.

By ZACH+--------------- on Saturday, April 28, 2001 - 05:20 am:

I agree! I think Pablo Honey is definatly on the same leavle as the other stuff... I also think Kid A was almost entierly emotionless (tahts part of the beauty) but amnesiac is so full of emotion that it hurts (I swear alex... It's their best ever)

By OutOfOrder on Saturday, April 28, 2001 - 12:53 pm:

I never said commercial musc was good. Its just no one appreciates Radiohead anymore, yet I did hate KID A as I thought it was self indulgent bollox. Though Idiotique was ok!Radiohead will never scale the heights they once did.Its a shame!

By alex on Saturday, April 28, 2001 - 06:10 pm:

You cant really say that they wont "scale the heights they once did" because you have no idea what their going to do in the future, and the quality of that work.

I've heard a few songs from Amnesiac already(their pretty older live versions, Pyriamid Song when it was Nothing To Fear) And I must say I do quite like them. I dont know for sure if I'll enjoy the studio work as much(I learned this with Motion Picture Soundtrack, fuck those synth organs!)

In all, lets all remain optimistic(no pun intended) and they still hold an incridible weight in the industry. i.e. the ass kissing media.

By ZACH+------------ on Saturday, April 28, 2001 - 06:48 pm:

Motion Picture Soundtrack was brilliant with harps and organs----sorry alex----Johnny can rock a hammond like nobody else. And i like the new stuff even better than Ok Computor and way beter tha the bends (even though they are 2 of the greatest musical works ever esspecial Ok comp.)

By alex on Sunday, April 29, 2001 - 07:48 am:

I like The Breeders. I just got home, and I must say that "One Divine Hammer" is a hell of a fun song, especially when your feeling extra giggly from a night at w/ your friends. Anyone else dig the Breeders(yes, I said "dig")

Anyway, yeah its a good song, Motion Soundtrack is it is, but you know, I liked the live version SO much more. However you are absolutely correct, Johnny is all that is divine when given a hammond, and/or a tooth pick and aluminum foil.

By Mick {The Lad} on Monday, April 30, 2001 - 10:46 pm:

Aye, eki thump. I played in th'match today against this prison team and every one of em woz over 6'3 so I rolled me sleeves up and thought to meself "eye, this is gonna be a job for Mick the lad". So we started thou match and they got real rough with our lads so I got in there calming everything down never loosing me head like. I tells this 6'6 bloke to calm down or he'll have mick the lad to deal with and he gets a bit upset so I goes and has a word with th'reff. Beofre ah knows it he gives me th'yeller card. I sez, wot woz that for and th'ref sez, dont be cheeky lad and get on with it. So I gets on with th'game and scores a few goal and we find ourselves 4-3 down wiv 10 minutes to go since theys keep getting away with everyfin so I has a word with ref and he gives me thou final warning, then I notices a bundle of cash in his pocket so I nicks it, runs down to th'offlicence and got splattered off 25 cans of fosters. Oh yeah! YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!

I can understand why so many people get pissed off, never to return, (whenever you leave for more than 72 hours you come back and think "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!!!1) but I must admit to digging a bit of anarchy & civil disobedience in my day-to-day life.
