Ever loved a Blur song everyone else hates? I personally love "Entertain Me", the bass line is brilliant, yet most people hate it!
By Chris on Tuesday, February 20, 2001 - 08:36 pm: |
Most of The Great Escape, especially Globe Alone, Fade Away, Country House and He Thought of Cars!
By kacy on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 03:45 am: |
Yeah, most of TGE here too. It was a perfectly good record, just a few overdone moments. Also, I like thier cover of Substitute on that Who tribute record...haven't heard many fan's verdicts on it but I know Damon won't even have it in his house! And I really like Essex Dogs. I didn't at first but I love it now. Noise is good.
By Lucky on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 11:10 am: |
Yeah, all the above and Bang. Don't unnerstan the animosssssssity towar's it't'all...
By Eddy on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 12:11 pm: |
The Great Escape was one of the worlds greatest achievements. I wish it could be 1995 forever, just so Radiohead would avoid going shit.
By indigo on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 01:19 pm: |
me too - i love TGE as much as (if not more than) Parklife except Country House, which i used to love but I actually know too well to listen too any more. I dont like Essex Dogs still, but I do adore Bang. Entertain me is one of the best songs ever!
By Chris on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 01:38 pm: |
Essex Dogs is worth a listen just for the percussion; Dave really goes to town with the bell of the cymbal!

BADGEMAN BROWN! I don't wheter people like it or not, 'cause nobody ever talk about it...but in my opinion it's lovely!
By St*Rsh*PeD on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 06:26 pm: |
"The Great Escape", to quote Alex, will be cool to listen to someday. It will be popular again!
Wait..was it ever popular?
By St*Rsh*PeD on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 06:42 pm: |
I don't think Badgeman Brown is as bad as people make out either - and, I know you'll grit your teeth Kyle, but One gets Born every minute is quite enjoyable too!
By Chris on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 08:11 pm: |
Yes, Badgeman Brown is good, but I prefer its sister b-side I'm Fine. The amazing fretwork is as good as anything Coxon has devised. I Know is under-rated as well, while we're on the subject of b-sides.
By Si on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 08:40 pm: |
I know was an A-side, part of a double A-side with She's So High, which is why they played it first at the A-sides gigs in '99.
By Chris on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 - 09:13 pm: |
Shame it never made it onto Leisure, it beats the heck out out of most of the songs on that album.
By St*Rsh*PeD on Thursday, February 22, 2001 - 06:45 pm: |
Woodpigeon song is rather lovely and I've been listening to The man who Left Himself (b-side to stereotypes) a lot lately too. Yeah, Leisure is a droningly bad album - they should have put more of the b-sides on it.
By kacy on Friday, February 23, 2001 - 03:18 am: |
I like a lot of Leisure! Birthday,Sing...Wear me Down is a nice little tune as well. And no matter how banal the lyrics are in SSH, TNOW and Bang are, I like them too. Definitely should have put Explain, Into Another, Inertia etc. on there though.
By Chris on Friday, February 23, 2001 - 07:25 pm: |
Mace is nice too.
By St*Rsh*PeD on Friday, February 23, 2001 - 08:55 pm: |
French Song is bloody amazing too, as is dancehall. Bloomin' eck, this topic has changed into the "best b-sides topic"!
By Toby on Monday, February 26, 2001 - 12:02 pm: |
Actually Chris, I Know is track 4 on my copy of Leisure. We Americans have a different version with a different running order. 'Course, we didn't get Sing. Had to buy it on the Trainspotting Soundtrack. All of Leisure is underrated in my opinion.
And as for B-sides, I'm quite partial to Redneck and Wasailing Song. I love when the refrain comes in about going "into waltz time".
By the way, on my American version of Modern Life is Rubbish, Wasailing Song and Peach are unlisted bonus tracks, is it that way on the Brit version?
By Eddy on Monday, February 26, 2001 - 12:14 pm: |
The answer: No.
By kacy on Tuesday, February 27, 2001 - 04:20 am: |
And that's not the wassailing song. that's When the Cows Come Home. Wassailing song isn't on record besides the original 45 handed out at the show and as background music in Starshaped.

i love all blur songs.
whats there to hate about any of them? they all rock. even the ones you sometimes might press fastforward when it gets to them *lol*
hey Toby ;)
By Toby on Tuesday, February 27, 2001 - 07:50 am: |
Hey shellie
Is that really how your name is spelled, or are you just being creative and cute?
By shellie on Tuesday, February 27, 2001 - 08:36 am: |
yes toby thanks very much it is how my name is really spelled. are u being sarcastic or something? *confused* ;(
By Toby on Tuesday, February 27, 2001 - 09:55 am: |
You misunderstand, I'm being curious. I've known a few Shelly's over the years, and they've all spelled their name s-h-e-l-l-y (except for one who thought she was a Valley Girl for a few weeks and started spelling it Shelli which thankfully ended quickly because I got very tired of the "Like, dude, totally's"). I've never seen it spelled like you spell it. It feels very amiable. I don't think it would quite work with my name.
Tobie
No, I don't like that one bit on me. It makes me sound like a surfboard wax.

ah ah! for shame, smelly eddy! we all love you, didn't you know? and now.... THIS! sighs wash over me. is it cleansing that's needed? "if only it were that simple", would the raven say to the nightingale. there's something very oddening about the odour of the air...

i love the song theme to an imaginary film but everyone i know hates it i love the organ line in that song pretty melody
By St*Rsh*PeD on Monday, March 5, 2001 - 08:07 pm: |
I quite like "theme to an imaginary film" too.
So, no-one commented on the whole "One gets born every Minute is actually great (especially when drunk)" suggestion. Does ANYONE else agree, or am I kinda crazy and alone with this view? I'd love to know.
By BakeSoda on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 - 01:37 pm: |
You are both crazy and alone with this view. Oh hang on, I got in trouble for being unfriendly in response to a post of yours once, didn't I ?
So, through gritted teeth, 'One Born Every Minute' is great.
Convincing ?
Thought not.
By kacy on Wednesday, March 7, 2001 - 04:36 am: |
Actually it's pretty good when you're on a sugar high as well. Get a kazoo and play along. I think it's a good song with a few too many car-horn noises.
