By indigo on Sunday, January 14, 2001 - 10:39 am:

aaaaaah. (wipes away tear).
Wanna know something funny? My sister's mate just started a band and named it Anubis (some odd mixture of a lot of band names). He got a friend to do posters for their first gig. The friend obviously misheard or is a bit thick, and so printed posters for the promising new band, Anusol. hahahahaha!!!!!

By Daisy Donovan on Sunday, January 14, 2001 - 11:35 am:

Awww....nobody like you?...well, i don't doubt that hun J but i can offer some advice to you in my agony aunt topic in the personal topics section.
Good luck and keep smiling J

By Lucky Pratchett on Sunday, January 14, 2001 - 12:42 pm:

Indigo, my mother now thinks I'm insane cos I just burst out laughing at that Anusol thing. And not just MAD insane (the kind where you froth at the mouth) - INSANE insane (the kind where you froth at the brain).
Aw Tam. Everyone likes you. Anyway it's a problem BEING liked nowadays. If people like you, you get a vegetable down your pants. I see I won't have that problem (muaha, I can gloat). Unless...

UNLESS YOU KNOW THAT ALREADY AND YOU HAVE CREATED A TOPIC TO GLOAT AT THE UNFORTUNATE! I BET YOU HAVE HAVEN'T YOU. HAVEN'T YOU.

Well great cos I can gloat too. GLOAT GLOAT GLOAT.

Our band's called Welcome To Hawaii this week. I'm sure it'll be Under The Sink by Wednesday...

Lucky Prat.

By R~S~P on Sunday, January 14, 2001 - 10:56 pm:

Going riiight back up there.... Anubis is the name of the Egyptian god of the dead. He had a jackals head and eats human hearts. Just so you know. You don't want to get mixed up and go smearing *him* on your piles...

By indigo on Monday, January 15, 2001 - 05:30 pm:

I once had to make a papier mache head of Anubis as a school project on the Egyptians when I was about 10. Anusol may have been more successful.

By stereopop on Monday, January 15, 2001 - 05:41 pm:

I went to Egypt. I got to hang out with Anubis. We're down, but he kinda creeps me out with that whole death vibe he gives off ...

(Do you now know what being down wih someone is, Chris?)

By tam on Monday, January 15, 2001 - 06:12 pm:

ahhhh this thread is sposed ta be about how nobody likes me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

once again incubus has done harm to me on this board...

i'm not really serious btw..............

By Lucky on Monday, January 15, 2001 - 06:28 pm:

I heard Incubus's version of I Think I'm Turning Japanese. The original was better, but they did a cracking version at any rate...

By indigo on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 - 06:13 pm:

am i missing out by not having enough memory (on my computer!) to piss around with mp3? i have never heard incubus. my sole source of music is now Xfm, and the only good music magazine left is Q. who would have thought i'd ever miss melody maker?

By kacy wants to be a popstar geek on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 - 03:19 am:

On the topic of band names...I need one. Anusol is great, too bad it's taken. =P So which of these sounds best: Air Traffic Control, The Panic Attack, or The Spasmos? Or are they all shite? These are just a few I've thought up...they need record names to go with them. "Can Also Be Used as a Flotation Device" by Air Traffic Control would sound pretty good - any other suggestions? Come up with something brilliant and I'll put you in my thankyou's when the album is released to universal acclaim....ha ha.

By Lucky on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 - 10:19 am:

Scratch Panic Attack, it sounds too much like this other band what I've forgotten the name to. Air Traffic Control's the best in my opinion, but then again we're called Multiple Windows of Pain... I KNEW it would change by Wednesday!

And Indi, I dunnav much memory on my computer either, so I've got a measly 9 when everyone else has about 300. Ha, please, I haven't got the patience... Blur fans eh? Lazy bastards.

By someone who isn't someone else on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 - 01:22 pm:

Air Traffic Control is cool, so cool infact that that is the name of a dance/aerial/juggling troup. I don't think they are still around and it probably wouldn't matter if there were two differnet groups of the same name.

I was in a band called "Atomic Flowers" then I left to go to univercity and a girl pop trio came out with a disturbingly similar name.

By indigo on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 - 10:19 pm:

scary..... woooooh

when i was about 12 all my mates decided to form a band called (wait for the pathetic name with bated breath!) "Generation X-Files". Shit or what?! It never came to anything as nobody could sing or play guitar.

By Anonymous Coward on Thursday, January 18, 2001 - 03:48 am:

Do you care for Star Rocket?

By nat on Thursday, January 18, 2001 - 09:04 pm:

ah, tam, from your first posting, me neither!...
and i was looking forward to it, not 'cos i'm a fan, but because i haven't been able to go to a concert for four months, 'cos they always conflict with my "schedule"... and then coldplay sells out in 15 min., while i'm at bloody SCHOOL for chrissakes, and then today my mum tried to get the new tickets released, but couldn't. sigh, i fume. oh well, she says she can drive amy and i to the warehouse & we can stand around and buy off scalpers at the last sec...

indigo, anubis is the ancient egyptian god of embaulment. and, ARGH! some kid beat me to it (well, that's what happens when you go for weeks without internet... )

By gfi on Thursday, January 18, 2001 - 10:41 pm:

Coldplay, Gosh! I'd love to see them live!.... J

By Big_Rupert on Thursday, January 18, 2001 - 11:52 pm:

I'd go with that GFI, anyone know when and where they're playing?

By Eddy on Friday, January 19, 2001 - 10:11 am:

Auckland, New Zealand, today at like 3.30pm.

By Anonymous on Friday, January 19, 2001 - 07:03 pm:

yeah but they are a bit MOR aren't they?!

By R~S~P on Friday, January 19, 2001 - 07:32 pm:

I've seen Coldplay live. Supporting Muse at The Leadmill in Sheffield last year. Very good they were too.

By porcelaino on Saturday, January 20, 2001 - 03:36 pm:

i quite like "trouble". pretty good song. at least the piano bits in it.

By Joe on Saturday, January 20, 2001 - 04:09 pm:

I'm slowly warming to Coldplay...hated them at first....

How about Supasailer for a band name? It's pretty good isn't it? Meanwhile I'm lumbered with Sexy Breakfast, destined to play the Wheatsheaf in March, scaling the dizzy heights of pub stardom.

By Jen on Saturday, January 20, 2001 - 08:12 pm:

in a total aside, completely removed from the topic, utterly of no use to anybody, cos none o ye know me and I never come here...
I'M GOING TO SEE THE DIVINE COMEDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOO HOOOOO

the are ab fab...the fanfare the orchestra the witty lyrics, the Divine Comedy are Grrrrrrrreat!

By Lucky on Sunday, January 21, 2001 - 11:25 am:

WARMING to Coldplay?? That was awful! Even for you!

By Eddy on Sunday, January 21, 2001 - 11:34 am:

I had an open mind to Coldplay and was rather partial to them when no one knew who they were. Then it all went bananas and all the wee boppers started to like em. Much better bands get less recognition. Travis (shite) bandwagon I suppose.

By R~S~P on Sunday, January 21, 2001 - 01:12 pm:

Whereas smart people like us were on the Coldplay Bandwagon when it was just a little pushcart...

I saw them live twice before the album came out, and it was a big disappointment. They're better live.

By indigo on Sunday, January 21, 2001 - 05:34 pm:

Jen - the Divine Comedy !!!!! I love them! where r u seeing them?

Sorry to join in the sad indie "oh no my fave band is no longer a well kept secret between 4 people" cry, but I too went off Coldplay after the huge fanfare for Parachutes and they started playing Yellow on Capital fm. It's an alright album, but Showbiz is better.

BTW, does anyone know whos supporting Muse at Brixton Academy in May? my manic friend is going to make me get there before the doors open, so I will be listening to them.

By gfi on Sunday, January 21, 2001 - 05:41 pm:

LOOOOOVE Coldplay and Travis!!! I think Travis will be here in Brazil by the end of the year, and I can hardly wait!! Coldplay will tour around the US in the next months... I just wish that was a year ago when I was there..! L

By gfi on Sunday, January 21, 2001 - 05:45 pm:

It's the last day of Rock in Rio 3 here and I never thought I'd say that: thank God it's almost over! lol The fest it's been great, but it's also sooooooo tiring!!

By Joe on Sunday, January 21, 2001 - 07:44 pm:

Yeah, muse are bloody fantastic. But they're playing slap band in the middle of my exams! So I can't go! But they'll play the festivals, surely...so that's OK. And Soulwax are on in February, so I could go and see them....oh crap, I'd better get a ticket....

By jOE on Sunday, January 21, 2001 - 07:47 pm:

Slap band? Muse have gone funk? And how will I concentrate in exams while resisting the urge to get up and get funky?? And what will my teachers think of them playing in the exam hall??? And will I ever learn to type properly????

By kacy the frustrated songwriter geek on Monday, January 22, 2001 - 03:46 am:

Methinks I'll stick with Air Traffic Control. It's really just me and the only reason I insist on having a "band" is because I don't want to be one of those singer/songwriters who goes by their own name (no disrespect to such ones... I just don't want to do it myself). So I'm going to make up a virtual band composed of my 4 alter egos. Due to multitrack recording it will hopefully SOUND like a real band... that's my idea anyway. Sort of like the Gorillaz project, but with only one person behind it.
If I ever get enough money to make a decent CD master of a few tunes maybe I'll put out an indie 7" or something... but first I must concentrate on the day job to get money for equipment. Ah, if only an anonymous benefactor would drop a recording studio in my back yard. I don't know why I want to put out a record so badly. I wouldn't want to go on some long support tour or hire a backing band so I'd never get a contract. Oh well...I do it for my own amusement really. It's just reeeeaally frustrating that I write these songs that need multiple tracks and good production to make them sound the way they exist in my head, and I don't have proper equipment. *sigh*

By kacy talks too much here, but is really kinda quiet in person...really... on Monday, January 22, 2001 - 03:48 am:

That was quite long wasn't it? Appy polly loggies, I guess I don't talk enough in my day to day life or something.

By indigo on Monday, January 22, 2001 - 12:44 pm:

I like Air Traffic Control - it was the only name I could remember when I was talking about bandnames to someone - which is a good sign!

By kacy on Friday, January 26, 2001 - 03:54 am:

That's great! Well the name is now officially taken, I looked on the UBL and AMG sites and apparently there was a band called "Air Traffic Controllers" that released two records in 1998 but I could find NO information on them, so I'm going ahead with Air Traffic Control. I've just got some software so maybe after a while I'll get some mp3s up on my website-in-progress, meanwhile maybe I'll put up some lyrics and post the link here eventually. Off to get a URL...
This thread has REALLY gone out of hand hasn't it? Oh well, that's nothing new.

By Eddy on Friday, January 26, 2001 - 10:54 am:

AMG is a very wicked site init Kacy. What's UBL??

By kacy on Sunday, January 28, 2001 - 03:51 am:

Ultimate Band List. Type in a name and it will bring up lots of links and stuff. AMG does top all for having data on even really obscure stuff. Heh, I just noticed if you put in amg.com you get something like "allied management group." Wicked indeed, hm. So...if anyone wants to go to the All Music Guide, it's allmusic.com.

By Eddy on Sunday, January 28, 2001 - 11:46 am:

Yeah I found out what UBL is, it's shit after being a fan of AMG for so long.

The first time I got into AMG was when my school library had a copy of the book. I spent many periods bunking class to read that book, me and my mate called it "The Big Mother", it was our saviour.

By Chris on Sunday, January 28, 2001 - 04:14 pm:

My band, Every Third Sunday, are on that site.

By kacy on Tuesday, January 30, 2001 - 03:34 am:

Yeah...I never bothered buying the book but I can sit in a bookshop or library and look at it anytime I like. Ever notice the copies for sale have been all thumbed through and look used already?

By Eddy on Tuesday, January 30, 2001 - 11:42 am:

Haha yeah sorry Kacy that was probably me, haha.

By indigo on Tuesday, January 30, 2001 - 06:33 pm:

hey, i now work in a bookshop and its people like you that make my job hell (as in people bring books up to the counter going, look at this its all thumbed, have you got another copy etc for me to shove down my whiney throat)

i just noticed that was eddy's posting - are we somehow fated to disagree on EVERYTHING!?!

By The Occifer. on Wednesday, January 31, 2001 - 05:41 am:

You are a sensible girl, Indigo. Your parents deserve congratulating. Do they have email addresses? I could do it myself ...

By kacy on Wednesday, January 31, 2001 - 05:13 pm:

See, all bookshops need to do is mark down the books once they get "used" and then, maybe someone would actually buy one if it was under 30 quid or whatever they charge. But most bookshops probably don't like to do stuff like that as they're MONEY-PINCHING CORPORATE-OWNED BASTARDS!!! Ha ha, sorry, had to let that out. Support Independent Retailers, everyone.

By indigo on Thursday, February 1, 2001 - 11:33 am:

I agree kacy, but the thing is that i work in a discount bookshop (3685 days now £2.21!) that only sells books that have been sent back from other bookshops. This means that virtually all our bloody books have been thumbed through by Eddy and the like, are sold at a big discount, but people still moan that they're bloody tatty!

Anyway, this shit bookshop is actually part of a MONEY-PINCHING CORPORATE BASTARD chain of crappy discount bookshops. As we have no stock system, my job is impossible - I can't order or replace books, or tell people if we have a book. I spend my entire Sunday there redirecting people to the independent bookshop up the road (owned by a friend haha) and reading. Bringing the system down from the inside!
