I want to start a new conversation. I'm not sure what about but the subject has to be really really long so lots of people see it and think "wow, this one must be really really interesting" or something. I don't know.... I don't thinkit should be about blur or music in particular but something that everyone can contribute to. How about "If you had 27p, what would you spend it on?" Yes I like that.

By th on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 07:01 pm:

I'd spend it one a fualty condom that only Boys would sell.

By Si on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 08:20 pm:

Two packets of Transform-a-snack and a sherbert swizzle lolly.
I'd skim the spare 2p across a pond somewhere.

By R~S~P on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 09:18 pm:

I'd buy one frozen baby rat to feed to my snake, and use the spare 2p to join Si in a 2p-pond-skimming competition.

By Ian on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 09:51 pm:

There's a 2p skimming competition? I'll play the winner!

By Ian on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 09:52 pm:

If we retained all 27p, we could have many pond-skimming competitions.

By R~S~P on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 09:58 pm:

Ah, but the remaining 1p would be problematic, no? They just don't skim as well.

By Chris on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 10:54 pm:

A first-class stamp, with which I would post myself to somewhere infinitely more interesting than Cornwall.

By Eddy on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 02:57 am:

Why couldn't this topic have a smaller topic title. I mean for fucks sake, what a load of bollocks.

After the skimming competition, I'll dive in and get the coins and become a very rich man indeed.

By Lucky - my computer refused to work yesterday. This is not fair. I KNEW I shouldnta dowloaded that fucking Spin Doctors thingummy bob. And I fucking hate ponies. on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 06:43 am:

I'll start saving up for that pony I've always wanted.

Sigh.

By Eddy on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 02:21 pm:

Haha, Spin Doctors. Maybe our 27p can buy one of there albums, haha.

By Bea on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 03:02 pm:

What's 27p in real money?

hmmm hmmm *calculating* oh, it doesn't even buy a stamp to england!
maybe some chewing gum?

By pantsy on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 06:09 pm:

Three pence short from two cups of coffee at work and 'The Evening Argus.'

Two pence short for a packet of 'Golden Wonder' crisps.

By Ian on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 06:17 pm:

On a different note, today I saw a moment of Britpop that was infinite times more worrying than the Benny Hill-esque Country House video.
Sleeper (remember them? Wanted to be Elastica even more than Elastica did) recorded a video circa 1995-6 set in a supermarket, with Dale fucking Winton pursuing them! What was even more disturbing was the fact that someone liked it enough to get it played on MTV2!
You could probably OWN the band Sleeper with 27p.

By CaZzA on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 07:51 pm:

I'd buy 4 strawberries. absolutly.

By Joe on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 12:00 am:

I think everyone wanted to be elastica more than elastica did.....

...I'd borrow one pence and get a pack of those delightful Strawberry Starbursts, to continue the strawberry theme.

Although they do annoy me somewhat...they call the strawberry and blackberry ones "Very Berry", which must make them the worst named sweet in the world. Incidentally, how much do you think a packet of Strawberry Starbursts are worth?

Pantsy, you can have my spare 2p to buy your crisps.

By Eddy on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 02:45 pm:

Sleeper had some good shit. Much better than some of that bollocks that's comin' out at the mo.

By Lucky on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 05:21 pm:

Hey I like Two Princes, okay? At any rate, I got the comp back from the workshop today... They've done something fuckkish rather to it and everything's gone really small.

I bet that's the first time you've seen the word fuckkish.

By Ian on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 06:38 pm:

Sleeper? Good shit? Eddy you are fucked in the head.
Or was it cos they had that shite song called "Nice Guy Eddie"?

By pantsy on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 07:58 pm:

Awww, thanks Christopher. To show my appreciation, you can share half of the packet with me.

By R~S~P on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 10:46 pm:

Thanks :-)

But no ready salted. Might as well just eat....um...salt.

By Eddy on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 03:18 pm:

Jesus Ian, whats your problem cunty, all this name calling. Yes, Sleeper had some good shit, much better than some of the shite that is around at the moment. You bought a Bowie Best Of... fool.
For Christs Sake man.

By Ian on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 06:17 pm:

You like Shed 7 and Sleeper- double fool.

By Chris on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 08:36 pm:

27 pence could buy you 27 penny-chews. It's amazing those sweets have stayed at the same price all these years, what with inflation and all. Maybe the Chancellor should put 100% tax on them? Then we'd have a good health service again. They'd still be quite cheap at 2 pence each. Then you could get 13 and still have that extra penny to skim.

By sean on Thursday, August 10, 2000 - 11:37 pm:

Sleeper were REALLY good - True class...as is Bowie... tut - Kids!
I'd buy a peach.

By Lucky giving Ian - and possibly a whole load of other people - a malevolent glare on Friday, August 11, 2000 - 09:51 am:

Hey, I like Shed 7...

By Eddy on Friday, August 11, 2000 - 02:45 pm:

You like JJ72!

By Joe on Friday, August 11, 2000 - 04:01 pm:

Oh calm down everyone.

By Eddy on Friday, August 11, 2000 - 04:05 pm:

I'm calm as Joe my man, it's just your young friend. It will all be forgotton in the morning.

By indigo on Friday, August 11, 2000 - 04:30 pm:

I have to say that I like Bowie AND JJ72 - and doesn't anyone remember Statuesque by Sleeper? Is anyone going to the JJ72 album signing/concert thing at Virgin Megastore on Aug 31st? I want to go but (damn) I'm on holiday. My friend needs someone else to go with! Aren't JJ72 amazingly like Placebo (in sound only obviously)?

By indigo on Friday, August 11, 2000 - 04:32 pm:

Anyway, If I had 27p I'd buy a Brian Molko poster.....

By Lucky on Saturday, August 12, 2000 - 08:45 am:

I'd give you mine for free.

By Joe on Saturday, August 12, 2000 - 10:36 am:

I think me and Ian are going (in theory) although I might not, money etc... But I'm glad someone else likes them. I think it's fine to buy a Bowie best of...there are an awful lot of shite bowie tracks out there, and at least you know you get Ziggy Stardust.

By th on Sunday, August 13, 2000 - 03:49 pm:

I've cracked the secret behind the 1p sweets staying the same price.

They have actually been getting 3-4% smaller at the same rate as inflation.

I'd go back in a time machine to 1932 and buy 27 1p chocolate bars.

By Ian on Sunday, August 13, 2000 - 07:43 pm:

What's shite about JJ72? I dare say you can't give me an answer that holds up to anything. I refer you to Snow, October Swimmer and Oxygen. And thats just for starters.
After a year or so of 'nice' rock stars with MOR music (Travis, Stereophonics) The Kids are getting cocky, precocious brats with bad attitudes- the kind of stars we want.

By Eddy on Monday, August 14, 2000 - 02:11 pm:

OK, just to make my point. In theory it is fine to buy a Bowie Best Of. But, if we put this situation in conjunction with Blur we have this:
Would you not frown on someone who was a music fan to go and buy the up-coming Blur Best Of, rather than all the albums. Sure, they would be getting a great package of songs, but all the great shit they would not have by Blur would be criminal.

Anyway, that particular Bowie Best Of, is rather patchy in the way that it is not chronological. I am just saying that Bowie deserves more than a Best Of, much like Blur or the Beatles, Best Ofs are best for lesser bands.

But perhaps I am just a musical purist/completeist.

Oh, and I don't like JJ72 for the fact that the singer sounds castrated and the dolly bird bassist. And I don't like there songs. I'm just not impressed with new Brit bands, that's all.

By indigo on Monday, August 14, 2000 - 05:02 pm:

Surely it's better to buy a "best of" than no album at all? I never have to money to buy more than one album, and which Bowie one would you go for? I made my friend a best-of Blur, which actually convinced her to go buy all their albums!

On another subject, does anyone want to buy a Reading ticket for Sunday 27th August? I've changed holiday plans, and I'm now not here then. I also need the money! Please e mail me with any (money) offers on roberta_wright@hotmail.com
The acts include:
Stereophonics
placebo
slipknot
rage against the machine
blink 182
a
cay
my vitriol
supersuckers
ian brown
elliot smith
baby bird
the crocketts
les rythmes digitales
lauren laverne
OK, I'm tired of typing now! This is getting to sound like a Reading advert.

By Ian on Monday, August 14, 2000 - 09:39 pm:

Does anyone know who is replacing Eminem on the Sunday at Reading?

By th on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 - 01:06 am:

I'll buy your ticket for 27p

By indigo on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 - 02:32 pm:

hahahaha

yeah, that would pay for the stamp for me to post the fucking thing.

By Thomas Williams on Sunday, September 24, 2000 - 10:36 pm:

Yeah!

I'd buy a match and some petrol and torch Leeds Uniteds fucking ground!

By Andy on Sunday, October 29, 2000 - 10:09 pm:

By Anonymous on Saturday, November 18, 2000 - 07:57 pm:

By indigo on Sunday, November 19, 2000 - 10:08 am:

By nat on Sunday, November 19, 2000 - 06:44 pm:

hm, i guess either canadian or american currency would be good... or even, does 100p make an english pound? 'cos then 27p is about 62.1 cents canadian, and indigo, you're right, it'd be about 41.4 cents american... ooooookay. thanks!

By kira on Monday, December 4, 2000 - 10:07 pm:

hmmmm 27p sterling, thats fuck all in irish isnt it? 27p irish would get you a pack of taytos and 2p over for that pond skimming competition. or we could all chip in and buy more petrol...!

By Moo-Moo-Magoo on Tuesday, December 5, 2000 - 09:45 pm:

By indigo on Sunday, May 20, 2001 - 10:31 am:

By candy on Sunday, May 20, 2001 - 07:56 pm:

so a pound is 2 dollors??

By indigo on Monday, May 21, 2001 - 06:32 pm:

A pound is about 1.4 dollars - that is 60 cents less than 2 dollars

By nat on Thursday, June 7, 2001 - 10:27 pm:

in canada it's about $2.30....

By indigo on Friday, June 8, 2001 - 10:11 am:

oh god i'm so jealous - i'm stuck at home, i'm meant to be revising for my fucking A level modules that are all next week, and my little sister is revising for her GCSEs, but when she's finished in a couple of weeks she doesn't have to go back to school and she's going on oliday to Canada! Whereas I have to go back to school for a month!

By nat on Saturday, June 9, 2001 - 04:30 pm:

By M_A_R_I_A_666 on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 - 06:47 am:

WELL, U GUYS R TOO MANY, I DON'T FEEL LIKE READIN IT ALL, I'M SURE IT MUST B INTERESTING......ANYWAY, I GOT NO IDEA OF HOW MUCH 27P IS IN AMERICAN DOLLARS, FOR EXAMPLE. IM FROM ARGENTINA, THAT IS Y I GOT NO IDEA. WELL, IF SOMEONE CAN TELL ME, I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT. U CAN E-MAIL ME IF U WANT. SEE YA. IT DOESN´T HAVE TO B ABOUT THIS, EMAIL ME FOR ANY REASON!!!!!!!!!!. AND "GOOD LUCK" TAKE CARE, OK?

By Autonomous on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 - 08:27 am:

OK.

By Rob Ruck on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 - 05:07 pm:

If I had any idea how much that was in norwegian kroner, then maybe I could come up with a sensible reply. If it's sufficient to get me a lasagne (or several for that matter), then I'd go for that. I'd like to buy Scotland, too, but something tells me that would be a tad more costly.

By Racist Fuck on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 - 12:02 am:

Are you sure about that last bit?
