Coping: Blur general: Gorillaz ooooo lovely
By Song_1 on Saturday, December 16, 2000 - 11:12 pm:

i didn't see anyone else have a topic on it so i thought i'd bring it up, feel free to correct me, im sure you all word anyway.
Yes this Gorillaz thing aint that bad at all, me very likes track 3 on the tomorrow comes...single, sorry it is called something but i can't be active enough to get out of my seat and look. To be honest i think its a good thing that damon has done in a while, ok yeah i can cope with blur's new direction, hey its not like their first, but this song is very old skool almost, as if Damon is making sense or maybe i just like the melody, oh well im talking aimlessly now and might as well bring it to an end as i haven't added too many full stops. Im looking forward to the gorillaz album and not so much of Damons new african spiritual stuff, no offence but i think its gonna be totally fudged up but time will tell and we will see.
Ahh yes and im still waiting for Dave to make a solo effort come on we know you can do a yellow submarine - or at least something to show you have a direction of your own (opps im talking crap again).

i like the gorillaz single aswell, damons getting very close to that melodica isnt he, it traveled with him to mali aswell.

and i dont think the new blur album will be all this carabean/voodo jaz stuff we think it might be. remeber back to just before we knew anything about 13, blur went very countryish with trailerpark and cowboy song, which at the time every1 was saying was the new way they was going, and 13 was something completely different (but frickin ace). even though i like MIMR and i wouldnt mind if it was similar to that, i think it was a 1 off single. i think the new album will be very folky, more acoustic driven, not as mad as 13, only in places, i think alot of the album will be in a similar mold to mellow song, what are the vibes you guys are getting for the new album ???

By kacy on Monday, December 18, 2000 - 04:19 am:

I think black book is a good indicator. And I lurrrrrve it. I think it will be pretty mellow, yeah, but with the occasional guitar freakout. I love the keyboard sound and the whole "beatnik" vibe of black book, I wouldn't mind hearing more in that direction at all. And I do like the gorillaz single a lot. If you've heard "I got law", which is a demo that was tacked on to the Japan release of 13 I believe, notice it's pretty much the same song redone. The demo was just Damon, a keyboard (or the melodica maybe) and a drum machine as far as I could tell, and he sang something like "tomorrow never knows" instead of "tomorrow comes today." I want a melodica, actually. They sound quite cool and look easy to play...anyone played one before?

By Eddy on Monday, December 18, 2000 - 11:33 am:

I would be very happy with 12 Country Houses on the next album. True.

Is Gorillaz, a single from Damons solo album??

By wakey on Monday, December 18, 2000 - 02:34 pm:

im actually getting a melodica in the new year, i went to my local music store and he said a fairly cheep one would only costy about £20 - £30.

i actually wantd one after 13 because of that little part what damon plays at the end of mellow song.

and no i dont think its from damon solo album ( if he's even done one, coz theres been a lot of speculation but no goods yet )
its part of this virtual reality band what damons added some lyrics and melodica to.

By Song_1 on Monday, December 18, 2000 - 08:27 pm:

Latin Simone - thats the song, yeah i liked music is my radar and blackbook but i can't help thinking Blur are going down a road of getting more and more experimental its noce to hear Damon dong some good music just like the Ravenous soundtrack. I doubt that Music is my radar will be on the next album like popscene. Anyway m still holing out for another MLIR but that will never happen.

Wakey, you're getting your wires crossed...Gorillaz is a real band but only appear in cartoon form because they're immigrants or something, but Damon also contributed to Deltron 3030, where everyone was given a virtual superhero name. And it still didn't sound like Sunday Sunday.

By kacy on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 - 03:00 am:

Damon is an actual member of gorillaz, not a guest. His character is "2D." Someone told me that they read somewhere that the other members are del tha funky homosapien, a girl from cibo matto and jamie hewlett (cartoonist who did tank girl, he also was damon's flatmate back round '98, so this theory makes sense - that's probably why they're a cartoon band.) Yes, Deltron 3030...I believe Damon's name on that was Sir Damien Thorn V of the Cockfosters Clan...ha ha!
Anyway.. gorillaz.com is an interesting website, anyone else navigated it?

I'd like to see Liam and Noel join a hip hop group...

Yeah i would.

By OoOm Papa! on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 - 04:58 pm:

They could form a group that could rival Gorillaz, just like the old Britpop war, just musically updated for the times.

Liam could take a leaf out of Del the Funky Homosapien's book and call himself 'Liam the Funky Neanderthal'. Come to think of it, Noel would be well suited to that name too.

YEAH!

By Joe on Monday, December 25, 2000 - 03:50 pm:

Oooh...everyone's getting confused. Damon GUESTED on Gorillaz, he is called Del Tha Funkee Homosapien on Deltron 3030....

By Song_1 on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 - 06:12 pm:

Ello, i just heard on radio one the other day (the dream team) played another gorillaz song with damon some up tempo thing that i don't know how to describe but that was pretty darn good. Have no idea what its called and it wqasn't on the tomorrow comes... single, someone let me know what its called please.

By indigo on Sunday, December 31, 2000 - 09:59 am:

I got the impression that Gorillaz is just a name for a made up group with various celebrities dropping in and out of it - all the articles (and a weird postcard I got) have this one cartoon on the back, and an unbeleivable description of the band (10 yr old bass player from Japan etc). I've been on holiday, I got back today, and I'm not gonna be able to buy tomorrow comes today grrrrr

By Anonymous on Monday, January 1, 2001 - 09:51 pm:

Theres some article on Dazed and confused about how they are a virtual band oh and its features a cd of tomorrow comes today thats if no pikeys have nicked it of course

By Anonymous on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 - 04:48 pm:

Does no one care about Damons career anymore!!!!!!or rather chat about daisy donavon!!!

By kacy still loves damon on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 - 03:31 am:

I do care about Damon, as always. I adore the guy in spite of all his eccentricities and all the nasty things the NME says. =) I'm sure the cartoon band idea is just to hide the identities of the actual band members. If you go to their website and read the little "book" describing the members and look at 2D, he's clearly a Damon character, especially as he is said to be the singer and a "melodica maniac" or something of that sort.

By kacy on Monday, January 22, 2001 - 03:25 am:

I've now read the D&C article and it makes it all pretty clear...the characters in the "band" are pure fiction and various musicians, including damon of course, provide the tunes and develop the character's personalities through interviews and such. And Jamie Hewlett draws them. Pretty cool idea really, these artists are trying to make the "band members" take on their own identity...kind of hard to do since Damon's obviously doing the singing, but a cool concept anyway. And they have a full length record coming out this year, yay.

By indigo on Monday, January 22, 2001 - 12:39 pm:

is that D&C out until the end of Jan? It had better be, I have to go into town and buy it. Bloody newsagent down the road stocks about 300 cross-stich magazines and very little else.

By kacy on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 - 02:51 am:

I think it's gone by now actually.

By Song_1 on Thursday, January 25, 2001 - 03:57 pm:

I've already seen a new issue of dazed and confused

By indigo on Thursday, January 25, 2001 - 04:45 pm:

damnation!

By Song_1 on Friday, January 26, 2001 - 09:43 pm:

Oh i heard that other gorillaz song today i think it could be called Clint Eastwood????,its a hip hop tune i think thats how to describe it about i've got sunshine (no not that my girl song) can't remeber the rest of the lyrics.

By smudgey on Saturday, January 27, 2001 - 07:16 pm:

Damon is not Del Tha Funkee Homosapien on Deltron 3030.... his name on it is something like Sir blahblahblah of the Cockforsters Clan. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien (the artist's real name) is the rapping guy on Deltron 3030....good album

Kacy was right about Gorllaz though.

confusion reigns supreme at coping!!!
