Forget the Greatest Hits C.D. How about a singles 'Video' compilation ?

Coping: Blur general: Forget the Greatest Hits C.D. How about a singles 'Video' compilation ?
By Scratch Athletic on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 12:40 pm:

Personally, i'd love to purchase a video which included all of the singles 'videos' on it. I have only seen some of the videos a handfull of times & would relish the opportunity of owning 'The Universal' - & it's brilliant 'Clockwork Orange' style video, 'On Your Own' - which I've seen about once, 'Parklife' - hilarious etc etc.

Given the popularity of the band, the only 'official' videos seem to be 'Starshaped' & 'Showtime'. I stumbled across a few 'live' bootlegs but believe it's time to push for all the 'videos' on one tape !!

You with me ?

By Bea on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 01:32 pm:

Oh, I'd sure like that!!!!!
Count me in

By Chris on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 02:26 pm:

That sounds like a good idea. I'd particularly like to see the For Tomorrow video, and the UK version of There's No Other Way (the US one is terrible).

By Scratch Athletic on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 03:57 pm:

If Starshaped is available where you live, Chris, buy that. It has all the Leisure & MLIR videos at the end. I love the For Tomorrow video, with Damon hanging off the back of the bus 'La la'ing'.

By Ian on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 06:14 pm:

Not anymore it doesn't.
I have not seen the following videos-
Bang
For Tomorrow
Chemical World

I have a blur video I made myself- it has loads of interesting things on it such as Alexandra Palace, a VH1 documentary, a gig in Germany and the excellent South Bank Show special.
If Blur release anything though, make it a video of the singles gig at Wembley...

By Chris on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 08:00 pm:

Thanks for the advice Scratch Athletic, and Ian, you can view Bang on http://www.musicvideos.com ,
and Chemical World on http://www.mtv.com . No For Tomorrow video though. Dammit!

By Ian on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 10:49 pm:

Thanks Chris- but now I am even more baffled.
I saw Bang and noticed there was a Blur song called "Ride With Me" (what the fuck?)
And the MTV site no longer has Chemical World.
It is my goal in life to see every video- I wanted to at Blur:X last year but the cunts in charge clearly had no idea as to how popular Blur would be and only 20 or so people were able to see them.

By Ian on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - 10:52 pm:

I mean- WHY THE FUCK DID THEY REMOVE ALL THE LEISURE/MLIR VIDEOS OFF THE END OF STARSHAPED?
Whats the point? Why does the video promote this as a good thing? WHY?
I love Blur but sometimes feel they should do more in ensuring the fans don't get screwed.

By Lucky on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 08:58 am:

I share your pain... Right on the cover of the new and "improved" Starshaped it says "Now without the promo videos!"

...

DO THEY THINK THIS IS A GOOD THING? DO THEY THINK IT IS FUNNY? WELL, LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, MISTER "I'LL JUST REMOVE ALL THE PROMO VIDEOS FROM STARSHAPED AND PISS OF EVERY BLUR FAN ON THE PLANET WHO DIDN'T HAVE THE CHANCE TO GET THE ORIGINAL FIRST TIME ROUND BECAUSE I THINK IT IS FUNNY" - I AM NOT LAUGHING.

By Lucky on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 08:59 am:

Oh, and Ride With Me isn't a Blur song - It's by some other band whose name I can't remember but it reminds me of coffee. I think the site just fucked up.

By Anonymous on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 10:22 am:

Go to the Bizarre Column of the Sun today (3 August 2000). The Internet link is below:

By sarah on Thursday, August 3, 2000 - 12:10 pm:

I've got a video of all the Blur singles vids, I bought it extremely illegally from a Swedish guy over the internet. At the end he also recorded me selected highlights of A Clockwork Orange in Swedish - sweet! Just to rub it in, my fave Blur vid (after To the End) is For Tomorrow. I wish I lived in its black-and-white ultra-stylish nostalgic London gorgeousness! And To the End is such a classic: like a whole film compressed into three mins. Hmm, I'm off to watch them all again now, byeeeeeee.

By Joe on Saturday, August 5, 2000 - 08:47 pm:

Ooh sarah you cad.

By ely on Sunday, August 6, 2000 - 02:29 pm:

yeah BLUR......erm
JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanx=)

By sarah on Monday, August 7, 2000 - 05:56 pm:

aren't cads usually male? just a thought.

if anyone's in the blur fanclub, i'm in the latest blurb with a review of the ODC soundtrack! however i wrote it ages ago and now i look back i realise it's crap. oh well. plus they have heavily censored my sensational introduction! but hey, at least it's in print!

By Lucky on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 - 06:56 am:

Doesn't the cover kick arse?

I seem to have mislaid mine already... The minute I find it I'll read your review Sarah, no matter how censored. Unless it only has the word 'the' left in it, but I'm sure it's not that bad.

By Joe on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 - 12:41 am:

Well done Sarah....I'll have a peek at my girlfriend's copy. And don't sexually discriminate, you bounder.

By indigo on Friday, August 11, 2000 - 04:45 pm:

I have to say that a lot of the promo videos are crap - Coffee and TV excepted of course. From the little tiny bits of the early vids I've managed to glean from various documentaries, they all seem to be slightly surreal landscapes with Blur looking stoned......anyway, they'd better release the A-sides gig at Wembley on video, because it was the best concert I've ever been to!

Yeah, the Blurb cover's dead good - its a terrible picture of Graham on the back though!

By Mick on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 - 01:31 am:

Indigo, I agree. The Wembley gig was fuckin amazing and has to be released on video. I was told there were videos of it doing the rounds in the markets at Camden etc, but was also told there was plans for it to be officially released. Does anyone know any more??

By indigo on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 - 02:20 pm:

No (sob sob sob)

Anyway, I seem to be the only person in the world who hasn't seen the no distance left to run video. My friends have been so adamant that its the best blur vid ever that I've been reduced to actually ordering the single with the video on. It had better be worth it!

By Eddy on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 - 04:21 pm:

Well depending on how much you are paying for it.

My guess is that it won't be worth it.

But on the other hand.....

By Ian on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 - 08:20 pm:

God yeah...Wembley 1999. Just remembering that night...so personal despite the thousands of other blurrers there.

The Wembley sized synchronised moshing to Girls and Boys...

Moshing on a window ledge during On Your Own...

Breaking some guy's leg at Song 2...

Throwing my shirt away at For Tomorrow...

The brilliance of Sunday Sunday...

(Sigh) I don't believe any gig will ever top it- the euphoria! The hits! I go and cry now!

By indigo on Wednesday, August 16, 2000 - 05:44 pm:

I couldn't speak for about 3 days afterwards.... I have to admit, I cried all the way through No Distance Left To Run (and I don't like the song that much!). It was the first (and probably only the way I'm running out of money) Blur gig I ever saw, and I'm so glad I did. I can't believe that they're not going to play the singles ever again!

BTW, who thinks that Bang is really a terrible song? I think it's much better than Country House and at least as good as There's No Other Way!

By Ian on Wednesday, August 16, 2000 - 06:41 pm:

The bassline to Bang is great!
The thing was...after that gig I could only really speak about it to people who were obsessive about blur- I could try and explain the gloriousness to my mum but she couldn't really appreciate it, likewise 90.47% of all the people I know.
That's why it feels like 'my' moment.

By Chris on Wednesday, August 16, 2000 - 08:10 pm:

I love Bang, it's an amazing song and really complemented by the video. Anyone got any ideas regarding what the song is about? I see it as just being about the speed at which we seem to live our lives, but no doubt that's way off the mark...

By Ian on Thursday, August 17, 2000 - 12:29 pm:

Blur do seem to have a nasty habit of slating their old material.
I don't thnik Bang is trying to be profound or anything, I am fairly sure its just a poppy song with no real underlying message, but no doubt that's way off the mark...

By Eddy on Thursday, August 17, 2000 - 02:46 pm:

The public opinion of Country House has been delt to by the Music Press.

I wish peeps would get their heads out of their arses and realise it is fucking top. As well as the video.

Just to add of course.

By indigo on Thursday, August 17, 2000 - 07:19 pm:

I loved the video when it came out, even though I only saw it twice at the time. We just got cable and I've now seen it about 20 times, and you can see how pissed off Graham looks. I'll still sing along but the best video is Coffee and TV or There's No Other Way.
mmmmmm....trifle

By Dave Hedgehog on Wednesday, September 6, 2000 - 06:01 am:

Blur videos are top

By Anonymous on Tuesday, September 12, 2000 - 06:19 pm:

I AGREE SOME F$%^&^ BRING OUT A BLUR SINGLES
VIDEO

IVE SEEN POPSCENE ONCE AN I LOVE THAT SONG

By Anonymous on Tuesday, September 12, 2000 - 06:20 pm:

HERE HERE,

I agree also with the above coments a singles
vid would do nice to the colection

By Chris on Tuesday, September 12, 2000 - 07:09 pm:

Absolutely, they've made some top videos. Especially Country House - seeing Alex trying to ride a pig and Graham impersonating a milkman is especially funny. But surely their best video has to be the classic Parklife.

By Eddy on Wednesday, September 13, 2000 - 02:49 pm:

Oh yeah!! I'm not the only fan of Country House. You are class Chris.

By Chris on Wednesday, September 13, 2000 - 06:21 pm:

You too Eddy, it's good that somebody other than me recognises Country House for what it is - a work of art. After all, it's directed by Damien Hirst, the one who did the cow in formaldehyde, and those weird spots on a white background.

By indigo on Wednesday, September 13, 2000 - 09:43 pm:

But is it art.......
I have no problem with the spot painting and even the animals in formaldehyde but I draw the line at calling CH art. Just because he directed it it doesn't make it art(same argument applies to Fat Les)!

By Thomas Williams on Sunday, September 24, 2000 - 10:35 pm:

By GIV on Tuesday, September 26, 2000 - 01:23 pm:

WHO FANCIES A BEER ??

By GIV on Tuesday, September 26, 2000 - 01:26 pm:

NO NO INDIGO, YOUR NOT THE ONLY ONE. DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP ABOUT IT. ITS OK YOU'LL SEE IT ONE, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SWITCH THE FUCKING TELLY ON!!!!

By essex_dog on Tuesday, January 9, 2001 - 05:05 am:

you can get all the blur videos on the best of dvd

By Chris on Tuesday, January 9, 2001 - 03:30 pm:

I don't think MIMR is on it... it's not on the VHS version anyway.

By indigo on Tuesday, January 9, 2001 - 05:46 pm:

Oh I have only just had time to watch my new shiny best of video! Oh my god! young blur, singing their little hearts out!

Who cares if MIMR is on it (it isn't). It is the worst Blur video, thousands of times worse than Country House. For Tomorrow is absolutely gorgeous though, and makes me proud to be a Londoner!

By Chris on Wednesday, January 10, 2001 - 12:43 pm:

It ain't a bad video, just not as good as the other ones. And Country House is excellent. But yes, For Tomorrow is the best and makes me proud to live in this city too. The video captures the very essence of life here, with Damon's posing as a corpse in the Thames an obvious reference to rising crime figures in the capital.

By indigo on Wednesday, January 10, 2001 - 08:04 pm:

I stick by my opinion of MIMR as a bad video - although I have now decided that the worst vid ever is Bowie and Jagger doing "Dancing in the Street". A sight to make Tin Machine fans cry.

Where do u live in London? Sadly, although I was born in Greenwich, my parents moved us out to Buckinghamshire for the good of my education. !!!!! fuck school! I want to be a London girlie again! And For Tomorrow is one of the best reasons.

By Arresting Occifer on Saturday, January 13, 2001 - 07:06 am:

Dancing in the Street was horribly naff, even for it's time. I love Music is my Radar though - both the song and video.

By Chris on Saturday, January 13, 2001 - 04:12 pm:

I live on the Lewisham/Greenwich border in 'lovely' Deptford. It's getting so bad I'm considering taking a holiday in Beirut to get away from it all...

By indigo on Sunday, January 14, 2001 - 10:22 am:

heheheh. I moved to Lewisham when I was about 2 years old. My only memory of it is that I was always really pleased to go somewhere else.

By Anonymous on Friday, January 19, 2001 - 04:39 pm:

The Blur best of singles ARE already on DVD!!!

By Anonymous on Friday, January 19, 2001 - 04:56 pm:

By Thomas Williams on Tuesday, May 15, 2001 - 10:21 pm:

Yeah!

By Tracey on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 - 08:37 pm:

I have the best of on video .... and its the best video I have ever bought - blur do some amazing vids (btw Starshaped - where in my opinion Graham is very funny and Showtime are also fuckin class) The best blur vids of all time are Parklife and MOR .

By Chris on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 01:31 am:

crazy shit, man. *shakes head*

By Queen of Diamonds on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 04:19 am:

I love the greatest hits CD, even though I own all of their albums. I like the way they arranged the tunes. They put a lot of songs on that album.

It's the only "Greatest hits album" I know all the words to. And I'm American...isn't that weird, I've never even been to London(ever). I don't know anyone else that is a true Blur fan, I mean sure I've met people that might have an album or two(old Blur) but Blur's songs speak to me in ways I've never been able to express myself and I've definitely had a chaotic life. I could definitely write a book about it and I would write it while listening to Blur. Get the creative juices flowing in my corporate head.

By ChrisZ on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 05:09 pm:

LOL

By Bread and Butter on Friday, November 16, 2001 - 12:44 am:

What does LOL mean?
In american speak-easy language.

By indigo on Friday, November 16, 2001 - 05:31 pm:

Laughs Out Loud

By Eggplant Soup on Friday, November 16, 2001 - 11:57 pm:

oh. And I thought it was something different.

By xistenza on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 03:05 am:

I just got the Best of DVD. This is the greatest collection of Blur videos. I've already watched it 3 times. Being in the US and deprived of any decent british videos on MTV, this is a true gem.
