Come On...Amuse Me

Coping: Blur general: Come On...Amuse Me
By Shaunée on Friday, October 27, 2000 - 02:39 am:

I want to know why it's so trendy to hate Muse. After seeing them a lot in the past few days I defy anyone to say they aren't bloody good.
And they're little sweeties too...

By Eddy on Friday, October 27, 2000 - 01:25 pm:

Wow, Shaunée, you have started a topic all by ya self. Nice one.

People give Muse grief because they are poos.

They are shit, not original and a terrible hybrid of Radiohead (Watch "Stars In Thier Eyes" for an upcoming Matt Belamy performance of Radiohead, haha), and Nirvana.

Not really original, quite boring and just too fucking miserible.

Muse are just one of these new style British bands who refuse to be flippant and decide to be serious. Doves being the only band who have successfully pulled this off.

Muse will never amount to anything, no one will buy their next album (Showbiz had terrible artwork), and they will be filed next to Cast and Showaddywaddy in the bargin bins down the local Megastore.

I now welcome Joe and Ian for the counter attack.

By Ian on Friday, October 27, 2000 - 04:23 pm:

Whilst not being the huge Muse fan Joe is, I like to believe I am the voice of reason.
Musically, they don't really sound that much like Radiohead- a few may sound a bit like Thom and his merry pals but not to the extent where they are devoid of all originality.
Sunburn, Showbiz and the like are thoroughly good tunes, fantastic when performed live. They have made just the one album thus far, and it is promising. Whether they have the staying power remains to be seen, but the bargain bins may have to wait a little while yet.
Matt may seem miserable on stage but he's quite a charmer away from it. Middle class bands like Muse are a bit like WWF wrestling*, obviously they are not really tortured souls but they are damn good fun when they pretend that they are.

*-Only ever watched for ironic purposes. Seriously.

By indigo on Friday, October 27, 2000 - 08:08 pm:

I LOVE MUSE!
actually, probably a little strong. But for a debut album, Showbiz is fucking excellent!
Unintended, Sunburn, Muscle Museum etc.....

NOT LIKE RADIOHEAD! AT ALL!

anyway, the cover is shit, but muse are not, ok?

By Thomas Williams on Friday, October 27, 2000 - 09:38 pm:

Yeah!

By Shaunée on Sunday, October 29, 2000 - 09:36 pm:

Every single thing Ian said there was straight from my mouth. Thanks for saving me the hand-energy Ian. Though I am wandering how you know Matt's a charmer....
And thank-you Eddy. What's Stars in Their Eyes?

By Skrooie on Sunday, October 29, 2000 - 11:51 pm:

I think Muse are bollocks.

By Shaunée on Monday, October 30, 2000 - 08:43 am:

Well good for you.

By Eddy on Monday, October 30, 2000 - 11:12 am:

Stars In Their Eyes is a programme, with a tall goober with a beard as a host. It consists of people dressing up and singing like a famous musician.

Basically it's one hundred versions of "Lady In Red", and Marty Pellow wins every year.

By Joe on Monday, October 30, 2000 - 08:14 pm:

Except for last year. And the year before that.

By Skrooie on Monday, October 30, 2000 - 08:32 pm:

It's Marti.

Hahaha. The real one kicked my schoolbag in the local petrol station, before poncing off into his top of the range landrover and bogging off into the night.

Twat.

By Skrooie on Monday, October 30, 2000 - 08:34 pm:

...but Muse are still shit.

By Skrooie on Monday, October 30, 2000 - 08:43 pm:

Oh, and seeing as this is a Muse topic after all, I've got the new Radiohead LP from Napster, I was wondering if anyone had the correct details about track 12 and the bonus track, as some seem to have listed it as You & Whose Army, some have it as A True Love Waits and some bollocky bastards haven't bothered to name it anything, the twats...

Is there an alternate version, like a Jap edition or something causing the confusion, or is someone simply trying to emulate Mr Yorke himself, the awkward wee fucker ?

By Skrooie on Monday, October 30, 2000 - 09:04 pm:

...oh Christ, and some have it as Only Dreaming as well...bloody nightmare, more like...

Nyargh !!

By Eddy on Tuesday, October 31, 2000 - 11:29 am:

I thought it was Marti.

BTW why don't you buy the album instead Srooge?? (hey thats a nice pun). And the answer "cos it's shit" dosen't count.

By Skrooie on Tuesday, October 31, 2000 - 09:54 pm:

Cause it's jobbies.

Hahaha.

No, if you're on about the Radiohead LP as I presume, I'm a fan of the 'Try Before You Buy' tactic, as endorsed by TV weasel Jamie Oliver.

If you're talking about the Muse LP, the 'jobbies' comment remains valid.

By Andy on Tuesday, October 31, 2000 - 10:50 pm:

Muse are absolute fucking shit..but dont think im supporting blur, cus there worse!I heard there new ummm im trying to think of a word *attempt*,and i thought there was interference on the radio due to the weather...music is my radar?I like music too, maybe blur should think about maybe releassing somit which qualifies as music...cant wait for there new album..if that was there best song i hate to think what the rest will be like,Big brets band are probably better than blur......I aint a fan

By Out Of Order on Wednesday, November 1, 2000 - 11:13 am:

Andy there new album is a greatest hits album and Music Is My Radar is somthing different.Better than a lot of wank in the charts these days and at least its better than sopmeone who uses a drum machine and someo sound effects to create a song!

Andy name your favourite bands and why please???

By Eddy on Wednesday, November 1, 2000 - 11:30 am:

Oh yeah btw Skrooge, don't worry about the Kid A secret track, it's just ten seconds of glittery noise.

Kinda like an updated sound of the bit in "Atmosphere" by Joy Division thats sounds like sunshine. You know, the keyboardy chimey sound, crossed with an orchestra.

By Eddy on Wednesday, November 1, 2000 - 11:33 am:

I actually spent many minutes staring at Jamie Oliver a few months back whilst he was doing a book signing.

By Shaunée on Wednesday, November 1, 2000 - 12:48 pm:

glittery noise...that's exactly right

By th on Wednesday, November 1, 2000 - 05:22 pm:

Where is the secret track then? I found this this in the cd case behind the black plastic bit inside which I presume is meant to be secret, but I've not found the secret track....

By Big Brett on Wednesday, November 1, 2000 - 10:29 pm:

By tam on Saturday, November 4, 2000 - 05:43 am:

hmmm i'm not that familiar with muse or embrace!

but i do know that i'm seeing incubus in concert once again next monday!

By inertia on Saturday, November 4, 2000 - 12:23 pm:

Hello...jeesh - long time no see...just thought i'd say sommat on this topic: Matt = Thom??? excuse me ! Jeff Buckley anyone?
I think so...and he's said so himself too..

By tam on Saturday, November 4, 2000 - 03:37 pm:

what????????????????????

jeff buckley...ahhh heh? what?

By indigo on Saturday, November 4, 2000 - 08:17 pm:

I think the word "nice" just about sums up Embrace. The same applies to Coldplay. Actually, my best friend is the worlds biggest Embrace fan, no exagggeration. She actually got Danny Mcnamara to sign every Embrace CD, poster etc she owns and bugs the hell out of him whenever hes on the Embrace chatroom. She spent the summer going mad at various secret gigs in quarries in Pilton and Cornwall, phoning me up and screaming obscure b-sides at me, or repeating the fact that Danny nicked her mate's kazoo and played it on Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

Now I think about it, Coldplay actually did play at one of those gigs... mmmm, cosy.

final thought after the irrelevant ramblings= MUSE ARE EXCELLENT

By Fendelstroy Burbeck on Sunday, November 5, 2000 - 06:35 pm:

I hate Indie Blur are the worst cos they try to be new. I have come to the site cos I cant believe how shit the new song is!!!
I like pop and Andys bands are cool. Uk garage also kicks arse- who likes Dreem Team? They funk!
Muse are dull and shite, like all indoe.
Alice Deejay said it best- Who need guitars anyway!!!!

By Shaunée on Monday, November 6, 2000 - 01:23 am:

I do, very much.
And I sort of agree with Inertia, if you're going to compare Muse with anyone it'd be Buckley over Radiohead.

By Eddy on Monday, November 6, 2000 - 12:41 pm:

Honestly, Jeff Buckley was great, don't soil his name with Muse in the same sentence.

Oh fuck, I just did it.

By Skrooie on Monday, November 6, 2000 - 09:05 pm:

Muse : Are Jobbies

By Colin Treadwell on Monday, November 6, 2000 - 10:46 pm:

Muse are fucking great!

By Andynomomous on Monday, November 6, 2000 - 11:15 pm:

zombie1 zombie! zombie! ZOMBIE NATION!!!
iM THE D-E-V-I-L the devil

By Shaunée on Friday, November 10, 2000 - 02:57 am:

If there's one criticism I could put on them it's that some of their lyrics remind me of other bands', but really, is it possible to come up with new concepts?
eg, 'you could have been number one if you only found the time and you could have ruled the whole world if you only had the chance' in Uno always makes me think of
'I could be a genius if i just put my mind to it and i, i could do anything if only i could get round to it' in Pulp's Glory Days

By Prissy on Thursday, February 22, 2001 - 03:38 am:

Does anyone else ever feel a sensation of playing God via Napster? I found a Blur interview, entitled, "blur - interview" and thought it kinda dull, so I changed the name to "Blur Interview! - Get Down & Dirty With Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James & Even Dave!" ... went out and left my computer on for about 15 hours, came home, looked up "Blur - Interview" and found that about 20 people had downloaded it and are now being forced to have this cheesy title installed on their PC's. Unless they change it's name back, I suppose. Ah, the best things in life can be so silly...

By dirty dave on Thursday, February 22, 2001 - 03:43 pm:

That's rather funny...rather funny indeed.

By Dave Hedgehog on Thursday, July 25, 2002 - 10:31 pm:

I'm easily amused
