Hmmm, slightly disappointing, but then again I don't think it deserved to be a massive Blur single.

On cd uk it was at no.7, it must have gone down.
By the way did anyone see the performance, it was the first ever live performance on the show

Yeah....impressive. I liked Graham with his weird hat and Alex wearing that pink effort at the end. Shame about the position, but it certainly wasn't number one material was it?

That's not true.
People who are fans of bands like Blur etc, say that charts don't mean shit thesedays.
But they do.
This is only said cos our bands do shit in the charts, and when bands don't perform in the charts we say, oh well It don't matter.
But it does. I think we all feel a bit of dissapointment about the low chart placing, I thought it would be top Five no probs.
Anyway, we were all pissed off when Tender was only Number 2.
Theakston said the one and only feasible thing in his life on TOTP when he said after Tender, "If there was any justice in the world, that would be Number 1".
So deep down the charts do matter, just like they did when Blur were favorites with everyone, and songs with barking dogs (woof, bollocks, woof) would quietly slp down the charts, rather than surge to Number 2.

point taken, but to a select few like myself it doesnt. i gave up hope when 'no distnce' only reached about 15(and i fuckin love that song), and that puffy irish band was at number one. i think radiohead did a good thing aswell by not releasing any.
the only chart with a bit of class still left in it is the album charts, where good bands still get number 1's like radiohead and blur, despite them not being very commercial.

Hmmm...but yeah, of course it matters. We'd love a world where Ash can concievably get to number one, where we all hang around in Camden bars sharing a pint with Jarvis, taking the piss out of the Gallaghers who skulk in the corner snorting stuff, where Justine works behind the bar to make ends meet, she'll always give you a bit more Carling in your lager and lime than she does to her normal punters, where Menswear end up dancing on the tables singing songs from Oliver while the whole world looks on, quietly calculating, softly simulating, ever emulating, rarely replicating the fabulous Blur, sitting round a table drinking their Fosters, quoting their Forster, quietly cool right into the night, and we share a kebab on the way home.
And we are at peace with the world.
